Original article: The anti-iPhone

First off it's the customer service model that's supposed to be different

Jitterbug is supposed to be built around the idea, probably alien to most of you, that if you have a question or problem, you call, some human being picks up and then they help you.

Secondly - I am the probably the only middle aged person w/o a Blackberry who is a heavy SMS user for work and personal. The point is that at best most people don't use most of the features on their phones to begin with. Initially they start out using all of them but soon stop. I've never met anyone who watches TV on their phone, and they have to pay to get it. Or ignore it as it were. Most people don't have picture mail and so use it sparingly since ad hoc use is very expensive. The quality of the phone MP3 players is weak, and the storage is light. At best you can get a 2GB microSD card and the codecs are not well made. Voice dialing? Nope - too arduous to program. Browsing w/o 3G? forget it it's torture. And I would guess that 98% of all the connection software out there either doesn't actually exist or doesn't actually work. The Samsung A900M (no longer made) has good blue tooth which works in conjunction with bt headphones and an iPod to autoanswer the phone. That's a nice one but it's largely unrelated to the phone.

I have a Moto Q that I like because it mimics my PC office productivity software. And it's a phone. And I can type the hell out of it. Camera? Bleh. Only in a pinch.

In fact I can't really think of any new functions they could cram into a phone and make me want it. Better 3G bandwidth EVDO like the Cingular 8525 (HTC Hermes) would be great if the carrier didn't massage your prostate on the costs. And 802.11g would be ok although it seems overkill with Bluetooth.

But none of these things address the near-Gitmo customer service you get from the carriers which is something Jitterbug was intended to address. Will it? Don't know, hope so.

Strategically, Aluf Benn has his head up his ass.

The Hamas can't rely on getting a pass on murdering Israelis if they are in sole control of Gaza. Iran is a non sequitor. The key is the relationship between the Hamas and Egypt, which is rather good right now. Why don't you stick to book reviews or cooking shows or something?

I'd make a point but

You'd never hear it from the supersonic wind whistling through your head. TTFN.

No more deniability either

With the Hamas in control, even if they don't commit acts of terrorism they can't claim no responsibility. They are the ones ruthlessly in control. So strategically it won't work for them to assert more terrorist attacks against Jews, who like it or not are not leaving.

Original article: The NAACP's sad decline

"The biggist justice story of the past year was the Duke Lacross non-rape non-assult."

First off, spell check is your friend.

Second, no it's not the biggest story. The biggest story is the one no one talked about vis a vis Duke and it's one that has zero to do with race and gender. It's gory pathetic story about how incredibly screwed up the North Carolina criminal justice system is. I live here and I see cases like this nearly every day. Not high profile ones but tragic insane abuses of power all the same. A college student who stole a PS3 shot to death through his own door by a deputy on a no knock warrant and barely any mention of follow through by the DA. Cops and deputies who routinely, and I mean routinely assault, abuse, attack and arrest people WHO AREN'T EVEN BEING CHARGED WITH A CRIME. Off duty cops who take upon themselves to execute people who are attempting to steal their personal cars and narry a word about even a public hearing (although in that case there was one and she simply resigned her job).

No the story, the big story is the one that uncovers the ugly fact that NC 'Justice' is a rampage just this side of Gitmo where 1 joint busts are logged as D felonies with $30,000 bail (19.5% bond per state law) where cops who pull over speeders wind up pepper spraying, tasering cuffing and slamming people for no obvious reason or excuse at all. Where DA's will go for the longest prison sentences imaginable using cooked up charges. Where even the judges have taken to ignoring the recommendations of the DA the Probation department and many of the statements of the cops themselves because no one can believe let alone prove them they're so over the top.

The real story is that UNLESS you happen to have about a million dollars and you are charged with a felony or 2 or 7 in NC for crimes that don't reach that level most other places then you are screwed. You ARE going to jail. The fact is, the Duke 3 were not innocent. They were simply charged with the wrong crimes. In NC in relation to young people, no other agendas withstanding, they would have been charged with underage drinking, possession of controlled substances, intent to distribute, hiring sex workers etc etc etc etc ALL of which would have been logged as mid level felonies each with bail in excess of $5,000 and each one would have been painted by the DA as the worst crimes since Charlie Manson.

No the biggest story is that North Carolina is a police state run by crazy people who's answer to everything is criminalization, incarceration and punishment.

As opposed to my moral betters at Salondotcom

Who will object a little to things like that, but not too too much. Hey Bush is a evil moron. But most of you are evil smarties. Some fucking beauty contest.
