I would question

The legitimacy of lumping 'displeasure' with riots, arson and calls for mass murder. But that's just me. At some point I choose to call a threat a threat. Be it car torching Muslim youth, the Klan, La Raza or Chicago Bulls fans. Just because they can hang the title of 'multicultural' on it doesn't make it inherently just. Unless of course you're advocating for the breakdown of most laws that define social order in the name of 'sensitivity'. As I said, enclaves I guess could be one path. Little Secular/Western-free zones where Muslims can erect whatever unique social, educational and legal construct they like, be it Sharia or something a little more tame. I'm not a Muslim woman, let alone a non Muslim who would live among them so it's no skin off my nose. Again, we wish them well with that.

I'm not sure the alternative would fly

I mean on Memorial day what would you expect them to say; "Fuck you very much and get back to work"? Public speeches are what they are. Maybe the families of the 52,000 dead at Gettysburg were comforted by Lincolns' brief speech. I think they were not cheered though. I think it was fortuitous that Lee lost and retreated else the public's support in the North for the war might have collapsed utterly causing the South to be able to sue for peace and maintain the Confederacy. And in fact the public made almost zero notice of Lincoln's quick speech at the time. In an age when public oratory was an art and public engagements could go on for 2 hrs, Lincoln's ~300 word utterance was a sound byte.

That doesn't protect you from a subpoena

I'm pretty sure that quitting does not insulate you from Congressional inquiry. I bet she bailed like so many others to form a new K street vanguard for their next run at the White House, having assumed of course that 2008 is virtually lost.

Let me catch my breath

First off Gordon Brown is what......? Oh yes the next PM and how is this different?

Secondly, and here's the funny part. The opposition party is DA DA DAAAAAA!!!!!! the TORIES!

Be careful who you root for. It could be the next Maggie Thatcher.

Well she's made as big a fool of herself as she could

Now it's time to retire to private life. That's the problem with being an accidental rockstar I guess. When she stayed on track talking about the war she was useful. Soon enough though she wandered off into crazyland where the Gubmint secretly did 911 at the behest of the world Zionist conspiracy that only her new best friend Hugo Chavez could defeat.

Keep away from the Brown Acid, people.

Please dial up Google Earth and point to which Tehran slums we've levelled. Pick any one or ten or a hundred you can find. For more than 3 years I've heard nothing but drumbeats from your quarter that we're absolutely positively going to be invading Iran tomorrow, 7am sharp. I merely ask you to point to a single specific instance of this is all. If you can't then you are engaged in the same kind of fear driven rhetoric as the White House.

It is a unique experience for modern America

To have an extended conflict fought by 100% volunteers. I'm not sure what difference it makes but it makes a difference.

Perhaps someone in Gary's quasi-patriotist camp should ask those men and women what they think would honor them. I'm pretty sure they would tell you.

Even the National Socialists

Were socialists. And they made one helluva autobahn system, didn't they.

Actually you're more than half right. On the score of 911 the # is legally going to slowly climb as people who contracted respiratory diseases from the collapse have the bad luck and poor political ear to keep dropping dead on us. Just last week the number incremented by 1. You wouldn't deny them their due, would you?

No I keep hearing "IT WILL HAPPEN" "IT MAY HAVE ALREADY HAPPENED" as utterly unqualified statements.

All I'm asking you to provide is some specific evidence that it either

A) absolutely will as guaranteed by the blogging class

or

B) secretly already has

Seems that your 250 word diatribes skipping around madly for yet another metaphor miss the mark on this one simple point.

Captain

I wouldn't presume to read the hearts of men as the Salon faithful claim to do on a regular basis..

But I would say that Cindy Sheehan has become a multidimensional embarassment to the professially irritated blogging class.

1) Frankly she sounds unhinged

2) Now she abdandons her fellow radicals

If nothing else these folks take crazy, personally. There's probably a white board in Joan's office with bulletpoints of the Salon Manifesto. Remember, and again I'm usually loathe to quote myself, with the professional radical class either you're 100% in or you're the enemy. There's no grey area. Either you wake up and take a dump on Bush's picture, blog about how secret zionists control the goverment and space aliens are sexually blackmailing the DNC or you're a neocon fascist baby eating abortion clinic arsonist. You either worship Castro or you worship Bush (or Bu$h or Bu$hitler, etc etc etc). So Sheehan abandoned the radicals and is therefore a nonperson. Consigned to the Kolyma goldmines of blogliterati class.
