You can't do or say anything because you're terrified that the crazies, marginals, UFOlogists, racial nationalists and everyone else with their own unique ax to grind won't follow you.

Why? Because you don't actually offer anything to anyone apart from a soapbox for their own agenda items. There's no center there. There's no common core. There's nothing to attract anyone to listen to you other than what they believe will further their own goals.
