The Mexican nation and government have a very real interest in turning this into a domestic issue for Americans and to set us against one another. However you paint it, the issue comes down to accepting millions of people who are here illegally and will continue to come. A guest worker program will at best, cause those workers wages to float upwards, a little in response to the legal construct that in theory employers could no longer exploit workers and pay them less than min wage because now they have legal status. Of course it remains to be seen what legal recourse these guest workers would actually have. In either case, ilegalitos in the US send 30-50 billion dollars/year back to Mexico. We should look at ways to incent Mexico to do something to their own economy to head that off. For instance perhaps we should tarrif Mexican goods an equal amount. Mexico is not a poor country, it's a trillion dollar economy. The problem is that they're lazy in enforcing their own economic strength and prefer to take the easy way out by enticing millions of Mexicans to work here and send money back home.
Lost is an exercize in brownian movement applied to TV. There is no plot or plot arc. There is no story. There is no path in any direction at all. You're all being jerked and laughed at.
Here's what happens. The 'writing' team gets together and smokes a few bowls. Someone puts down the Twinky and says "Duude - Polar Bears!" Someone else chimes in "Man - what if they talked backwards and shit and there was a magic underground bunker?? That would be shweet!"
See it's a just collection of stoner brain farts. That's all it is. It's not written down at all and the producers are just riding that train as long as they can. It's meaninglessness as art. The final postmoderndeconstruction of itself.
I predict there will be an attempt to create a sequel to Lost which simply assembles random postings from interested audience members via a blog. And then the blog itself will become more important than the blog. Then there will be a counterrevolution of people not chosen. And so on, in circling swirl of shit.
Are still pretty hardcore and see nothing inherently wrong with the deaths of millions if it will mean the furtherance of their ideological goals either. If you want to make a scromblett then you have to break a few oeufs.
What with having no backbone and all. I'm still left wondering what on God's Grey Earth they're going to do with all these so called 'benchmarks' when clearly the Iraqi government can't pull it together. Then what? A stern talking-to? Take away their driving privileges?
Maybe it's nothing more than TV for people too zonked out on meds to give a shit? After all, there is stoner TV. So my not prescription drug TV. Maybe it's as simple as the TV equivalent of Trip-Hop or House music. Maybe my dog is the real audience.
Let's just eliminate all rules and laws. Throw the doors open and eliminate the minimum wage and child labor laws too. Let's just erase our borders. I'm all for it. I have multiple passports I can live somewhere else. Makes no which never mind to me. Your country will look like Sinclair Lewis' "The Jungle". I'm sure that will work out fine.
Bloggers of the World Unite!
I'm glad you seem to know more about my family than I do. It's a common deficiency of the self annointed blogging left that they imagine their hands are clean their intentions are pure.
To be fair, my French Communists are ex French West African expats which brings a whole new level of Marxist People's revolutionary smugness into the picture. Back in the 90's when that whole rim was plunged into civil fervor it was interesting to hear them talk about the virtual necessity of spreading the fight into Western Sahara against the Moroccan army. Today several hundred thousand people are caught between "People's Armies" in that region. Further south the arc across Zambia, Mozambique, Angola and Namibia the military wing of the ANC pretty openly committed atrocities (oddly, against Muslims too) at the behest of the Soviet army and KGB staffers like Ronnie Kasrils who today a) is the ZA minister of intelligence and b) admits complicity in the massacre of over 12,000 people in Zambia in the late 70's. In all these cases terrorism against civilians was pretty standard. Even today 'necklacing' still happens if someone needs to make a particularly pointed example of someone.
But as I said, I'm sure you know more about my experience than I do. Please carry on.
Taxonomy of any kind, the ability to classify information is for the purpose of lumping things together and then, importantly finding them again. IF you don't really need to think about how to retrieve information then taxonomy is rather unimportant. The web can be chaotic because we have dutiful little bots to do all our fetching for us.
Namecalling is the first haven of the Salonista. thank you for hammering that point home.
Let's just admit that this is strictly a political issue for the AG's who can then turn around and make sure the angry soccermoms see them shake their fists at the malcreants. Yes yes, approximately 250% of everyone who's ever been on the Internet is a raving quadruple convicted sex murderer with a mouse in one hand and his cock in the other. Yes this sort of thing happens approximately 3.1 million times a minute. In fact there are whole airlines being started just so that 14 year old girls can fly around the country to meet 45 year old men they met on MySpace.
