And you would turn down a big payday after decades at the highest levels of civil service?

I don't think so. And this my friends is no different than any other ex senior staffer in government since maybe then end of WW2. I wonder for instance how you would feel about the direct pipeline a job in the State Department provides to senior staffers who choose to make the big bucks for any Arab government who needs a good lobbyist on K- street. Dear me, it's not even a poorly held secret. It's wide open. Again though if I had turned down a lobbying job or a Washington top draw law firm or consulting firm for 2 or 3 decades in civil service you can be goddamned sure I'd cash that in downstream. And any of you if you were honest about it and you were ever actually in that position would too. Until there's a law against it, it will happen.

BTW my CEO of public firm, earned 25 million last year while sending several thousand jobs to India. Yeah that sucks, but it's hardly treason.

Go it alone IS French

They refused to sign any nuclear treaties for years and then went off and created their own atomic program success in 1960. They pulled out of NATO and left everyone else on the hook for that. They hung on to Algeria to the cost of a 100,000 dead and Indochina to twice that. The history Former French Africa, with the exception of Cote d'Ivoire is nearly as bloody and bleak as that of the Belgians. Plus they so hated the Germans they effectively cornered into starting WW1 that their punishments at the Treaty of Versailles lead directly to the rise of Nazism. Ok they're wonderful and we suck. Gotcha.

Well paranoia is what it is

If you're suggesting that Tenet concocted this complex story just so that he could leave government and get filthy rich you're being a little nutty. You don't need a war to make bundles of cash in government contracting. Anyone who's ever done government contracting can tell you that. Hell you could get rich moving the lawns in Federal parks.

Next, I don't suppose you've had to get a security clearance have you? Depending on the level it takes up 18 months. Few private employers would bother to keep someone on the payroll that long before getting clearance. And guess what, neither would the government. They wouldn't give you a civil service grade to do nothing for a year and a half. It's a weird Catch22 but it's simply the way the system operates. If you have a way to get clearance in a week or two, I'd love to hear it.

FWIW

Amdahl used to have, it may still have, a 10 year no competition contract with the USPS to install and run point of sale devices. I don't suppose that's closely allied with war or terrorism. It's pretty damn lucrative though.

BTW did you know that one of the prime contractors for body armor is a sportswear company?

What's really funny is this

If you really want to hear some grade A French bashing talk to a French Marxist or communist. To each other France is the worst place on earth. But to you or I there is nothing greater. It's that basic schizoid view of themselves that fuels everything.

BTW Royal lost because she had no plan. Other than promising to triple the taxes on corporations, she really had no practical details at all. Voters there tend to pick up on that.

FYI France's new First Lady has not a drop of French Blood in her. She's of Spanish Jew/Anousim heritage. Sarkozy is Hungarian-Greek. One would think you multiculturalists would like that.

Original article: Iraq's neglected wounded

Was there ever an Iraqi VA?

Just asking. Was there ever any sort of Iraqi military medical program on a wide scale? I can understand the Republican Guards, but anyone else? I mean in present day Russia they barely bother to feed their soldiers.

Let's review

A far left highly agendized webzine commenting on the media pundits who are commenting on other pundits who speak out against whatever it is they generally feel like, typically something in the adminstration.

Wake me up when any of you have anything worth listening to.

What will it take?

This is maybe the only shot the Dems have at recapturing the White House. Bush is a lameduck with 28% approval. The Dems hold Congress, the country is 68% against the war. And the Republicans are busying eating each other to claim the mantle of Most Fucking Insane PsychoChristian.

But what do the Dems do? Of course. They waste their time with fringe candidates, gadlfys and crackpots. They run the most hated woman in politics up there with a black man with a vaguely Arabic sounding name. And then the webzines complain that they would rather have Howard Zinn or Che Guevera and anyone who's not as crazy as they are should be purged from the party.

My kids, who are archetypal youthful radical anarchist progressives are screaming now that the Dems are going to throw this one away. If the under 25's are wondering WTF you morons are up to then you should really take pause and reexamine your navelgazing ideological bullshit.

At this point I will be shocked, shocked if the Dem candidate carries more than DC and one or two states. Seriously, what will it take? How stupid can you people be?
