Well I guess it depends on your point of view. In Kosovo an Albanian funded militia instigates a separatist movement to break off a Muslim region of Serbia. Bosnia, likewise a 'breakaway' republic to try to carve out a Muslim identity for a region inside of Serbia. Chechnya, in part much the same thing. Sri Lanka, Biafra, Tibet and on and on. All these righteous separatist movements that ride on the shoulders of western well wishers and communists alike. But what is a separatist movement? At its base it's a collection of people who assert an ethnic, linguistic, religious or cultural uniqueness and that uniqueness is so basic that it has to take itself away from a greater whole. What after all is said and done is the rhetoric and the justification of the Palestinians themselves but separatism. And yet, and yet it's Israel who got their first, who early on in the post WW2 period (With India and a few others) asserted their separatism who are denied the same acknowledgment as nearly everyone else. The Algerians who fought the French, the Iraqis today who are fighting amongst themselves to assert separatism are all granted so called international law that Israel is denied. And the methods they are allowed to employ; terrorism, mass murder, chemical weapons, suicide bombing all, apparently find if not favor with the west, at least a grudging acceptance. Why is that?

What is the role of nationalism that so terrifies the westerners? Why is nationalism such a dirty word? What is the denial of sovereignty but a form of repentance and self hate? What is the upside of all these anti sovereignty movements that find traction in the west? So again I'd ask, what makes the Jews so special that they are denied the same care and attention to their own separatism that seemingly everyone else is happily given by the NGOs, the western liberals, the media, the UN and such? Is it just numbers? Whomever you count more of gets whatever so called laws and rights they want? That's the 'apartheid' assertion, that a minority cannot rule over a majority. Ok Episcopalians represent no more that 2% of Americans yet the represent 9 Presidents. Is that a violation of the liberal western principal of multiculturalism trumping rights and law? Is not the very nature of sovereignty as national consent to be lead being turned on its head by anyone with a ski mask and an RPG? If so, then why again is Israel denied this history. And if not then why are western liberals supporting them in the first place.

Nations exist. Today in France they overturned 12 years of Chirac for a right of center largely moderate President elect who platform rests on asserting that very nationalism and 'French Identity' that France was founded on and yet finds no favor with the very decendants of those radicals today who'd rather have no countries in the name of forking over their own sovereignty in the name of unelected unaccountable international bodies. Is the de-nationalization of states really a wise thing to pursue? Should the French seriously consider opening up ethnic, cultural and religious enclaves for anyone who wants one? Islamic France for the Muslims, Provencale for the Provencaliers?, Bretton for the Brettons? Burgundy for the Burgundians? That would unwind the clock 600 years. Who is served. No of course it's silly, just as it's silly to assert that Israel should not exist because it's convenient to dream of day when it doesn't, in the name of someone else's separatism.

It got 12 miles in a T-Storm which is pretty good for Africa. They usually don't make it into the air before they hit the end of a runway in a takeoff attempt in a torrential T-Storm. Makes it easier to locate the bodies that way. Now the forensics guys are going to have to fight off snakes, fire ants and predators for the remains. And that sucks.

And you do of course realize that full digital to everyone TV will ensure that you get to watch ads 100% of the time on some of the screen real estate don't you? Of course you understood that. That will be your bargain with the devil once digital is pervasive. All that smart bandwidth. Of course if that means they can implement multiple tuners in software and leave me to have 4 or more simultaneous screens up that might be a bargain I'm willing to make.

Everywhere in the US law enforcement and the 'justice' system is a gold mine for local and country governments. There is no upside to them if they give up the revenue stream to the Federal government. Whereas they can arrest you, bail you and put you on probation for the most trivial of things, all it represents to you is an inconvenient schedule and perhaps a few hundred bucks a month in fees, fines, probation, assessment, courty mandated intervention programs and whatnot. My own county makes a sizeable part of their budget from low end crimes, traffic tickets and all the bullshit that involves. It's really just another tax and since the level of 'enforcement' is so massive, it touches almost everyone and so is actually a fairly equitable tax. In the US about 10-11% of the total population has first or second hand contact with local law enforcement through arrest, bail and either incarceration or the probation system. In the next decade or so you can expect that number to mushroom as localities have to scramble for money. So while you imagine it's scary to fight The Man, the fact is they'd rather rape your pockets then send you to a some Gulag somewhere. Gulags are cost centers and they don't like that.
