So what. Don Imus is guilty of a lot of dumb things. In fact I can't think of a single black person who's ever worked for him or been on his show.

In either case, it's like prosecuting the Mob. You can't them for the worst crime, you get them for the crimes you can prove. So while no one really has any problem (Lord knows this is Salon) with antisemitism, mysogyny, and a dozen other isms, those in fact are not things that anyone in the 'media' can get in trouble for doing. Those are PC acceptable hate speech. Always has been. But as soon as you go after America's one protected media group then you are toast. And that's fine. I am perfectly ok with turning this into a race issue narrowly defined by black vs. white. It's not, but I'm ok with it. And it won't stop the next asshole from screaming all of their particular brands of PC hate speech but at least it will get them off the air for the hate speech you can punish.

I know liberals won't understand this and will scream at me telling me to fuck off, which sort of, in a darkly ironic way, proves my point for me.

There's acceptable hate speech and unacceptable hate speech. Liberals have framed the argument thus. It's entirely acceptable to openly call for the expulsion of all Jews from America or assert a super secret conspiracy for the secretive secret zionist jew menace to plot a take over of the US. And of course we did 9-11 and crop circles and the bird flu. But those are all acceptable. Likewise liberals like to champion gay rights but are no less homophobic than anyone else. Or misogynists, or any of the other brands. But those are all acceptable. Just like you can turn on the Fox news and listen to those clowns scream that anyone to the left of Generalissimo Franco is a cancer that has to be exterminated, in order to protect the big fat baby Jesus, or that all Arabs need to be nuked and whatnot.

Those are all acceptable hate speech in America. No Dogs No Jews No Irish. So the Gary and Joan show goes on its merry disgusting way preaching whatever it is they do. Just don't go after America's one special group for which, rightfully or wrongfully, there is a double or triple standard. So if the blacks in American have to do the heavy lifting to get assholes off the air, then fine. Let's do that.

I don't know anyone under the age of 30 with an attention span > 5 minutes. The newssportsitainment divisions are just giving us what we want and can tolerate. If you watch BookTV you are probably the only person you know personally who does. Why? Because no one is going to think critically or pay attention. It's all banners and screaming and garbage. Why should the 'media' lift a finger? Even here at Self Anointed Central - it's 95% yelling and agitprop to an audience that already decided that they will identify and agree strenuously with whatever a given author has to say, before they hear it. And woe to him or her who dares not slavishly toe the line. So again, what difference would it make? You could have a 'media' that actually does things and that would lead, where? You want a media that goes after this administration but that won't change how you approach the administation. And your opposites only want to hear the happy hateful horseshit on the right and reality doesn't matter for them either.
