Original article: The city of lost children

Like great literature......

....The Wire has so much to explore, reinterpret with friends, discuss with people who are in the Game and in Social Services.

The Wire (like Six Feet Under) is one of the greatest tv shows ever. Period.

If this tv show was a novel, it would stand with the best stories in depth, nuance, humor, irony, self reflection and fucking great writing.

I watched the finale once. I usually watch each episode several times to pick up what I missed and because it's just that damn good of a show.

But, like the finale of Six Feet Under, I am only able to watch The Wire's final episode of the fourth season only once for now.

The finale was brilliant and I'm still absorbing it.

Thanks Heather for an insightful review

Ring the Alarm

If some of you would get out of your smug bubble and wake up to the reality around you!!

The majority of people in this country work because they have to.

WE WORK BECAUSE WE HAVE TO.

Please spare me the "we planned" or "i have a good husband" or "we don't spend money on luxury".

You are all full of smug shit. You know why? Because you think your fortunate experience is the norm.

Guess what! Life is a bitch and sometimes there is no planning getting pregnant (shock horror). And like many working class and poor woman....I fucking work because I HAVE TO.

The NYtimes article was anti-feminist and classist.

Children will be just fine if they have a parent or parents or family that love them. Period.

Damn, I really wish many of you middle class women on Salon would fucking look around you (outside of your neighborhood) and see what many working class women have to do to survive.

Focus on the real issue at hand. This country does not value children or family. If you don't HAVE, you're fucked. We are an ass backwards country they way family is treated compared to other western countries.

Where is the solution to fixing the "shitty" daycare?

Have women stay home? WTF?

Next, the solution to the "problem" public schools is home schooling?

Focus on the real problem sisters. Don't get distracted by the nonsense of the article.

Damn, wake the fuck up.

RE: Not playing that game

Um, did you read what I wrote?

How is anyone going to homeschool when they have to work 40plus hours to feed their family?

Exactly how does ignoring the crisis our American children are in (lack of healthcare, decent schools) and turning inward to your bubble means I am "sitting back and letting government" figure it out? If you took a civics class in school you would know, WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT. You act like government is some separate corporation beamed down from space....

but let me guess....

it's those kids fault right? And they need to take

"personal responsibility", right?

How about you take your Darwinistic views, move to an isolated island so you can live in your bubble and

not live in this great society and democracy called America.

I believe in this country dammit. I believe in society and how we collectively live together as decent human beings.
