Thuggery celebration?

MCE007 sniffed:

> I don't think the theater audience would court the crowd who watch "The Sopranos"...celebrating thuggery isn't exactly the aim of theater crowd...

Wow, I never thought I theatre connoisseur such as yourself would be unfamiliar with _Guys and Dolls_. Or _West Side Story_. Or _Streetcar Named Desire_, with its handsome gorilla of a thug.

History will judge?

For many presidencies, the passage of time has helped throw a gauzy film of reminiscence over the duration. I don't think nostalgia will help old W out -- as the fallout from his incompetence continues to rain down-- Iraq, a squandered military, foreign policy in tatters, imperial law-breaking and Constitution-shredding, not to mention the tell-alls from tortured prisoners and former administration officials eager to get the stink off. The children and grandchildren will ask: how could you all be so stupid in 2004? And what can we reply?

Original article: Give Newt a chance

Okay, I may be nuts, but...

Does Newt in that illustration look like Marvin Belli, the "friendly" angel in that episode of Star Trek?

"Am I right, ladies?" syndrome -- always barfworthy

No wonder I barely read Broadsheet -- this is the kind of generalization and smug assumption that makes me just sigh wearily.

Just like the idiot stand-up comics with the worn out lines about women going to the bathroom in packs, shopping til they drop, fumbling with car directions, Venusing to men's Marsing, making this kind of sweeping statement feels to me like a watermelon-liking thing for a certain race.

These caricatures never apply to me, and when I speak up about it, all I get is a pitying glance that says, "Yeah, right. Har har." For some, it's useless for me to say that my husband is the one who cries during romantic movies, notices that I got my hair cut (and I never notice when he does it), and cooked 3 (count 'em) 3 turkeys this past Thanksgiving, with all the trimmings and dessert as well. And you better believe I stayed out of the kitchen during his 2.5 days of delicious mastery, except to shuttle his creations out and onto the dinner table.

Time to ignore Broadsheet again. Whatever type of women you all are trying to target, I'm not only not one of them, but I want to avoid them at all costs.

My heart yearns for the Daily Show now like no time else

For the love of God and all that is holy, media moguls, please give the writers the internet revenue they have so fully earned... the Daily Show and Colbert Report must speak!

Throw me in the briar patch!

I double-dog dare you to invite W along to your campaign stops, Huckster. Seriously, it's a great idea!

Viacom's hostages

I'm really not surprised it turned out the way it did. Stewart is a creature with a defective artifice chip -- there is just no way he can be forced on air against his will as he has and be able to keep things light and funny. My prediction is that there will be a moment of honest television from him -- maybe not tonight, tomorrow, but soon, when Jon just snaps in front of the camera -- that Viacom will hate and probably prevent from airing, and we'll see it on YouTube from a phone videocam. It will be so real that it hurts.

Not sure what will happen with Colbert. His on air persona is able to work around this, and Stephen's a consummate improvisor of Second City stock. He may snap on air too, but it will probably be in character and be one of those unforgettable moments of television that get compiled on VH1 every couple of years.

It is fascinating, but absolutely heartbreaking. These talented men are in a terrible fix. As fascinating as it could be, I am deeply wishing for an end to the strike to see the pain end for these guys.

I think we can win this thing

If this is a taste of how Obama can tell it like it is right to the face of the GOP lie machine, I really feel hope that we can win this country back.

GObama!

Saving my powder (money)

... for the real election. Honestly, either Hillary or Obama would rock my world if they were to gain the presidency.

People, stop it... they're BOTH terrific!

What is the big problem? Both Hillary and Obama have wonderful positions on practically everything, especially compared to Bush lackey McCain. I have both Hillary and Obama stickers on my car, and will be thrilled to vigorously work for either in the general.

Wake up, Democrats! We will have a fantastic candidate come November. Of course, work for the candidate you like best now. But once the decision is made, pick yourselves up and know we are not only making history, but working to fix what was long broken these 8 sad years. Breathe that in, and look up.

Supporters of Hillary and Obama...

You're not helping anybody with your screaming and wailing. Calm the f down and realize that the invective you spew can be used by McCain in September.

Honestly -- If you think the "other" D candidate will be worse than John "Bush Reloaded" McCain, I despise you with the fire of a thousand suns, almost as bad as Nader. :-)

Please don't make me get out the valium dart gun!

Calling Bill Watterson

I'm a big Berke fan, but I wonder if he ran this by Bill Watterson first. Bill's very protective of his characters, and never allowed any commercialization or use of them in any way.
