There is absolutely NO connection

You can believe all the fairy tales about god you want but don't drag science down. When you can demonstrate through empirical evidence, methodical testing and a scientific process that there is god, then you will a defensible position.

He declined running for a position as a Superior Court Judge in Orange County based upon his voluminous political baggage. It would be nice if they all would choke on a chicken bone. Having met Segretti and several others I can say they have a certain reptilian quality about them.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]I am sorry that your son sold out to the current neo-nazi's who are running our country, who advanced the Patriot Act, that operate secret prisons, that conduct renditions of innocent people, that don't believe or honor the Geneva Conventions, that are the most corrupt cronyistic administration ever (much more so that Huey Long ever hoped to be), etc. I served in the military and find he is on par with Don Segretti, Jack Abramoff, Karl Rove, Lee Atwater and Rick (Man on dog) Santorum. Don Segretti coined the term "ratfucking" as his definition of campaign dirty tricks, and your son (amongst others) did that term proud. Your son embraced it and decided to work with individuals whom he knew were very unsavory, dishonest, amoral individuals who had committed numerous illegal acts. Now, he is not beyond redemption, but no one in their right mind would trust him again who was an actual honest politico as he put his lips on the tit of power, as they all do, and was intoxicating. How can anyone NOT KNOW how incredibly myopic and stupid Bush is, that he was a cocaine addict, that he is a dry drunk, that he is incurious, that he is borderline stupid, that he is intractable, that he was willing to commit high crimes and misdemeanors, that he achieved NOTHING in his life that was not a direct result of being his father's son. I made the mistake of voting for him in 2000, presuming Powell and Cheney would balance him. I was wrong. I voted Kerry in 2004. Matthew Dowd is your son, and I respect your position. He is also a man and knew what he was doing and with whom.

Science seeks to illuminate and demonstrate, through practice and testing. It is factual and demonstrative. Religion is all about power and control. Making up fairy tales to instill fear and compliance in people. There is no god. There is no devil. There is no heaven or hell. If they exist, scientifically prove and demonstrate it. I can demonstrate and prove the existence of quarks and gluons and other subatomic matter. Why can't you prove the existence of god? Simple answer: because they don't exist, at any level. We are a product of hundreds of millions of years of evolution. What makes Zeus and Apollo any less than the christian god? What makes Mithraism any less valid or demonstrable than christianity? Nothing does. Virgin birth, son of god, messiah, etc are part of all faiths and religions, both existing and dead religions. Religion was created to explain that which was unexplainable for thousands of years. It was threatened by science, when dispelled the voodoo bullshit of the river gods, of the earth gods, of the christian god, etc. That is why Copernicus, Gallileo and others were hated and excommunicated by the the church. It threatened their power and manipulation over the people. Sell your snake oil someplace else where people are more gullible.

Religious nutjobs and wingnuts have successfully hijacked much of our educational system and government selling an extreme version of what you are selling, wingnuttery and a rejection of science and scientific method for "miracles" and other hocus pocus.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]if it helps keep you warm at night to believe in a god, great, do so. If it helps you achieve meaning for your life, great, do so. Science and religion are diametrically opposed, in every manner. A belief in god requires you suspend scientific theory and application; that you believe in "miracles"; that you disregard scientific application, reason and logic; that you believe that the god that you worship has more validity than that of Greek & Roman Gods, the druids, Ba'll, or any other faiths or god, for that matter. Quite frankly, they are all invalid but exist(ed) to provide people, like yourself, some comfort that there is something to explain the unexplainable and to make people feel there is more purpose than merely living and dying. It also serves the purpose of control and manipulation of people such as yourself, and very effectively so. So, I don't begrudge that you believe in fairy tales, provided they don't interfere with our government (as they have!) or the Bill of Rights (as they have!).
