@Don_peyote

"Have fun eating a pint of Ben and Jerry's, watching sex and the city while sipping a merlot whilst crying and masturbating.

"

There is a certain strain of feminist who is out not only to crush the balls of male adventure culture - you know them as the promoters of speed cameras, homeowners associations and gun control - but who hate it when women of accomplishment engage in adventurous non-traditionally-female activity. Mention Marie Curie to one of these people, and their response will be "...she died of leukemia, didn't she - hahahahahaha!"

If the Union of "concerned" "Scientists" believes in global warming...

...then is it finally prepared to admit that we need high-density energy sources other than coal?

I didn't think so.

So where do we go to buy some plenary indulgences?

"You do realize that early and heavier snows/rains in the northeast are part of global warming expectations. The trending towards higher temperatures overall are creating spikes in both directions, like a metronome out of balance, beating more wildly, both high and low."

Yes, oh sire, we do realize that the Warmist faith is now established in the land, and that it may not be questioned for it hath been declared Settled, and that all increases and decreases of temperature, and all droughts and rains, declareth the supremacy of the Word so help us Gaia.

@Old Joe

"Before 1948 and the UN formation of Isreal - was the US creating enemies in the Arab world?

I honestly do not know."

Actually, the answer to your question is yes. Don't let us evil right-wingers tell the story; instead, get it from the source leftists trust without question::

Sayyid Qutb, Egyptian writer and educator, visited the US at the time Israel was being founded, long before it had a chance to become a burning bush to the Middle East in general. While studying at that pit of iniquity, Colorado State Teachers' College (Greeley, CO). To summarize: Qutb, seared by exposure to the sock hops and malt shops of Forties Colorado, came to the conclusion that America was the world's fount of sin. He went back to Egypt to become al Qaeda's founding influence.

Such is our enemy, folks. This country has offered them the same civilization we offered to Germany. Whether they accept and prosper, or whether they stay radical and die in fire, is their choice.

@Mark Sulzer: What do they teach you kids as part of a 'publik skul edukayshun' these days?

"We offered Germany a "civilization"? And they accepted? Interesting view of history! Agore's "great civilization" theory."

This was called the Marshall Plan, and was the subject of the Nobel Peace Prize for 1953. You know, back when this award was given for actual accomplishments.

@SpaceGoat1701

"Rule of law depends on certainty of what is legally punishable and what is not. The Obama administration appears to have undermined that by urging prosecutors to exercise greater "discretion," i.e., greater caprice. "

So...what you're saying is that if federal prosecutors are allowed to introduce common sense into prioritizing what they crack down on, that they will not in fact do so?

You people have to decide whether Nanny Government is your friend or your enemy.

I would like to legalize, but at the same time we need to put an end to the unlimited ability of law enforcement - federal, state, and local - to steal cash from private individuals whenever they find it in the field, so long as they file a report deeming the funds to be of suspicious origin, whatever that might mean in a given case. It used to be legal for Americans to carry cash anywhere they wanted, except that when you crossed a border you were limited to $10K. Today, LEOs can just take whatever amount of cash you have on you, anywhere in public, with no specified limit on amount nor warrant required. The victim has to sue the government, if it consents to being sued, to get it back.

If you're right, then we can not assume that when governments are allowed to exercise common sense, they will. Legalize all recreational drugs, of any kind or class. Let those who wish to kill themselves with black tar heroin do so, eliminating themselves from the gene pool as quickly as possible.

@Nathan Coker

"A medicated society is a subservient society."

Actually, this is a society that likes to experiment. Recreational drug usage is already expanding from getting a buzz to actually enhancing human functions. If people are freely allowed to make mistakes (steroids) while enjoying the benefits of success (Provigil, Adderal) without being harassed by government, whole new uses and human powers may well evolve.

Time for the common folk to do to the pharma companies what they did to the music business

That is, use the power of the Internet to route around their legal restrictions on open access to products. Bus tours to Mexico and Canada are already big business in border states. Use anonymization services like Tor to prevent anyone from knowing that you shop the world market for your prescriptions. Since much of this technology derives from attempts to break Chinese censorship, you have a really large number of brains on your side of the problem.

This could be Obama's moment...

Were he to use his speechmaking powers in a direct attack on inner city youth thug culture. No white politician has dared do this for fear of being called a racist. If he achieved a bump in popularity by calling out the cops in that arrest of his old friend, imagine what could happen if he were to focus the powers of his office on the killing of Derrion Albert. This would be the kind action that earns people the Nobel Peace Prize.

Perhaps he could call Bill Cosby for some pointers.

@Cabdriver

"But by all means continue blame whitey - our time of feeling guilty is long long past.

Then why are you the first person in either the story or the letters thread to cast the situation that way?"

Because you're liberals, conditioned from birth to feel guilty about everything. You hate being white, and now you hate your very species, which is why you're always pulling for humanity to die off in one of your fake eco-hysteria scenarios.
