It is pretty obvious that the primary role of the mainstream media regarding the "War on Terror" is to regurgitate the lies puked up by warmongers which they then shield. When they are grilled it's "don't blame me, I was just doing my job", accountability mysteriously vanishes, the cash keeps flowing, the power of the unitary executive keeps increasing while Congress remains worthless, and the war drums keep the beat.
War and terror also help fill the gaps in the "24 news cycle" while bringing eyes to the tube. I mean, I got to watch the same footage of a car on fire at Glasgow for 18 hours straight. If it weren't for the fact that the sun goes down one would think they never put out the fire.
Of course it is no surprise that after the "Glasgow Terrorist Bombing" I don't hear the warmongers rattling their sabers at Pakistan or even paying attention to it, even though the preliminary reports I heard on the news were that the perpetrators were of "Asian" (i.e. Pakistani) descent. Maybe King Bush should go pay a visit to his Democracy loving Pakistani BFF, Military Dictator Musharraf, and straighten all of this out (and maybe the Dictator can help "spread some Democracy" while he is at it).
If the perpetrators in Glascow were Iranian the warmongers would be exploiting it to apocalypse. I wonder if Pakistan is providing aid in Afghanistan and Iraq? I wonder why the establishment isn't digging up dirt on other nations supposedly interfering in the War on Terror.
With the way the US treats lesser states, is it a wonder why Iran may want a nuke? Maybe the Iranians have seen the example set by other nations (Pakistan, NK) that if you make yourself a credible threat to the empire all of a sudden you have some leverage and are taken seriously.
Speaking of which, IC, now that the Palestinians have decided to see reason and elect an "emergency cabinet" more to our liking, we'll start giving them money again
"Democracy" in action. They vote, we decide.
Cheney is a sexy man beast who smells like pure win. Hotter than a Spartan in a Speedo and as ten times as ruthless.
Acknowledging the origins and religion of the suspects might cause The People to accidentally find out that the suspects are from Pakistani descent. Since Pakistan is a nuclear state and is being ruled by a fragile dictator friendly to US interests, it must be ignored and given lots of US tax dollars.
So can we get back to those Iranian jihadists since Iran is not a credible threat to the US?
But not being reported on. Three more members of Congress signed on to Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s bill to impeach Vice President Dick Cheney (H Res 333), bringing the total number of co-sponsors of the bill to 10.
Communication with people from other cultures can easily turn into a nightmare, especially if there are too many chefs in the kitchen and too many unqualified people in the middle micromanaging what they don't understand.
I guess being a CFR shill has its advantages when trying to get big bucks from the establishment. Methinks that Barack "I <3 the CFR" Obama isn't getting these massive donations because he is looking to change the status quo. He'll do what it takes to get into office then get back to business as usual, i.e. the "National Interest" just like all of the other bought and paid for politicians out there.
"the real question is why this line of reasoning is never held as true when talking about other Islamic Republics with dictatorial governments like Pakistan"
Because Pakistan has nukes and is a credible threat to the Empire, unlike Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, etc. The military dictator of Pakistan also plays ball with the US and doesn't sit on massive oil reserves, so he is "ok" with the US.
History has shown that it is OK to "spread democracy" by supporting brutal regimes that go along with US interests, e.g. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Pakistan, Nigeria, Uganda, Bolivia, Cuba, Brunei, South Africa, Brazil, Haiti, Guatemala, Taiwan, Honduras, El Salvador, Vietnam, Liberia, Haiti, Spain, Germany, Morocco, Philippines, El Salvador, Zaire, Panama, Turkey, Greece, South Korea, Chile, Cambodia, Fiji, Guatemala, Ethiopia, Portugal, Nicaragua, Rhodesia, Paraguay, Indonesia, Dominican Republic, Argentina, and ironically enough, Iran at one point.
This phenomena and pattern of behavior is not reserved for those on the right or the "neocons", either.
oh noes, it looks like scooter will scoot away... happy 4th of July for Bush, he and his gaggle can celebrate their Independence from We the People.
My friend is worried about driving around in his car with a joint because it is a company car and getting in trouble like that could ruin his career.
Yet Cheney's minions can lie to a Grand Jury and will probably get a teaching position at a "prestigious" University, write a book or two and go on tour, and in the end will become a "senior Analyst" on FoxNews and get a show with Oliver North where they can spew hate towards Iran, such as, "we shouldn't negotiate with a terrorist regime*". I imagine Libby will be considered an "expert" regarding the Rule of Law.
*Unless the CIA needs to equip "freedom fighters" on the other side of the globe.
Downside? Possibly trigger a civil war.
Between who? The People vs. the Establishment? The Militia of Several States vs. Blackwater, Inc.?
I read somewhere that us Americans were pretty successful at launching our own gorilla war when we needed to fend off an Empire. If the State gets out of control and it does happen that The People need to act against it, those on the Left might finally figure out and appreciate why we have the Second Amendment and why Stalin and Mao hated it so much. It is easier for a Police State to subdue those that can't defend themselves than to go up against an armed populace and insurgent militias. The Second Amendment protects us from ourselves.
We need an Article V Convention already...
Divide and Conquer.
