....with Paglia's take on Obama, Ayers, Palin, McCain, and the whole lot of Liberals with their "navel-gazing hypocrisy"! Kudos to SALON for keeping Paglia around when it's obvious the bulk of the readers here can not handle an objective, common-sensical analysis of the political scene. Paglia doesn't bow to any ideological dogma which is a refreshing change from most political observers.
...and by whom is a large derriere considered "a clear signifier of blackness"? What is this nonsense about large butts being "both vilified and fetishized as the most singular of all black female features... the thing that marked black women as uncouth and not quite ready for civilization"? Or the statement that black women are "considered the source" of protruding hineys?
This is one of the stupidest opinion pieces I have ever read, based on highly questionable premises! I don't care if the author is a big-assed Black woman herself and her comments are suppose to be humorous; she's not funny and her statements, presented as facts, are ludicrous.
I am not a youngster, by any means, but I have never heard of any of the author's s black butt stereotypes. As a "gluteally endowed" (how clever - not!) woman, I've been told I have an "apple butt" but never a "black butt". The only one's who have derided me for my tush size are my skinny sisters and, we all know, they're just jealous!
While I appreciate the alliterative value of the title of this story, I must say that even by the loosest definition of the word "broad", I don't think this woman qualifies as such. She's much too classy - in both demeanor and speech. She showed amazing restraint and a cool calmness in recounting her story just as she apparently did while the punk rifled through her purse. A "broad" would most likely have have cursed and bragged more. This woman matter-of-factly saw what needed to be done, grabbed a pan, and did it! I love her sense of humor, as illustrated when she flubbed the line about locking the barn door after the cow has escaped. Just goes to show that you can be a very sweet and courteous woman of any age and still be a force to be reckoned with when riled!
Once again, I found Paglia's opinion of Obama's Healthcare plan and the behavior of the Dems to reflect my own feelings on the matter. And I share none of the writer's personal, geographical, or career traits - meaning, I am a straight woman who lives in the country and has a mindset diametrically opposite of that of most of the "ivory-tower" crowd. Frankly, it amazes me that she and I think so much alike! However, when it comes to her pop culture observations, her approval of Sharon Stone's body, as seen on the cover of Paris Match, doesn't jive with my own. Stone's breasts look positively bizarre, stuck to her chest cavity like two half grapefruits.
Classic! SImply classic! This may be THE funniest, most original piece I've ever read about gay/straight issues. What a clever twist of logic, facts, and sheer humor to address an issue so often rift with mean-spirited accusations and stereotypes from BOTH sides. I love it!
