Shame on you Joan
[Read the article: Why Jeremiah Wright is so wrong]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]My wife and I watch Moyers every week. We saw Wright and as was demonstrated clearly, the media (now including Salon it seems) have nitpicked his sermons in order to make an issue of them, him, and Obama.
Even before the Moyers interview my wife and I were fans of Wrights, not only for what he does for his community but because he articulates many things we believe:
9/11 is a failure of American foreign policy. Absolutely, who except diehard Bush fanatics doesn't believe that?
Native Americans and African Americans have gotten the shaft in this country? Of course, who the heck doesn't believe that?
America isn't living up to its promise? Absolutely and when did it become unpatriotic to say so?
My word Joan, I don't think Wright's view of America is grim at all. He's helped more people than you ever will with writing like this, and I consider him more patriotic than you will ever be. In what way has your recent writing helped further the discussion about any of this? All you do is attempt, as the Clinton campaign does, to make people mad by doing what FOX news does except you use bigger words and do it from what used to be a credible platform.
You Joan, are so wrong, not just in your views about Obama and Wright but in your framing of these issues. I don't care who you like but the last you can do is frame the issues in a way that furthers the discussion.

I got scared...
[Read the article: Why the Jeremiah Wright story deserves more attention]

Thanks Glenn, sorry to be so dense.

@ miriald
[Read the article: Super stuck!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Well said.
If Obama becomes the nominee, how will all of you Hillary-supporting Democrats who are talking trash be able to enthusiastically support him?
How, in fact, will Bill and Hillary Clinton be able to support him after their negative campaign?
And, if Hillary weren't running, don't you think both Bill and Hillary Clinton would be Obama's biggest supporters? I certainly do.
This brings into sharper relief how the Clinton campaign's "kitchen sink" strategy, and the same strategy carried out here in Salon's letters, hurts the party, and hurts Obama should he become the nominee.
That self-centered strategy has brought into sharper relief where resentment of Bill and HIllary Clinton comes from. There is no doubt that they are both smart, but there is also no doubt that neither is wise because in the long term they've both weakened if not destroyed the Democratic party.

One omission Glenn
[Read the article: The media, the right and 1988: Endless deja vu]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]My only issue with your piece is that you fail to mention that Hillary Clinton's campaign has perpetuated the same GOP tactics against Obama with their admitted "kitchen sink" strategy.
I can't wait to see the ads they run in Indiana this week. No doubt something along the lines of 3am or heat and kitchens... Putting Osama Bin Laden in an anti Obama ad is as bad as Willie Horton, no? So, why not lump them in with Rove and co?

@ KateTex
[Read the article: How Hillary Clinton botched the black vote]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'd say "kitchen sink" is pretty Rovian.
The Clinton ad campaign alone (3 am, Get out of the kitchen, etc.) is shameful, Willie Horton stuff. Isn't that Rovian?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]There was a makeup exam of sorts, it was called the Kyle/Lieberman bill. She failed that too by voting yes to authorize invading Iran.
By the way, I'm a fan of yours, keep on writing, we're all behind you (well, some of us anyway).
