Another reason why I let my premium membership lapse...

Bad enough that a news organization seems to take the weekends off (especially since I can't... sour grapes n all that), but devoting space to this classless piece of shit... damn.

If you want to do this tabloid shit, and shit it is, bring back The Fix and put it in there. At least we knew what was coming if it was in the Fix, and could be avoided if desired. And it is desired.

MSNBC, CNN... don't get me wrong, all the media whores are banded together in this.

In case anyone was wondering, I get my news from NPR, and so far, I have only heard about 15 seconds about Paris there. Which is, I suppose, about all she is worth, side-show value-wise.

Ummm...what?

"What do you do with people who are otherwise unfit but uninjured?"

You can't be this stupid, can you?

Sigh...

An important topic like this, and I am so completely burned out on the process that the only thing that can persuade me to write a letter is to call RealName a dick.

But I won't. It serves no purpose to fall to the level of the neocon and start calling people names and avoiding the real issue. Like how the war is unjust, but that we still can't leave. Can't have Middle East in chaos, our economy would collapse without all that oil. We can't win, and we can't lose. The troops we have now are not enough, but the yellow-ribbon crew just won't sign up. In this respect, it's much like the anti-abortion sentiment the neocons' like to show. We love your baby until it is born, then go fuck yourself.

Are you really Christian, my neocon brothers? Jesus said pretty explicitly that we are here to live in love and peace. To take care of the poor, to feel the hungry, to clothe the naked, to heal the sick. But hey, how can we focus on that sort of thing when some dude might be blowing another dude? I mean, where are my priorities. I mean, it's all about the family values. That's why the neocons keep having serial marriages. They love the institution of marriage so much, they need to have three or four. Wife in the hospital with cancer? Fax those papers, baby. It's God's will.

Somehow, I do not think Jesus, the Prince of Peace and a local, would call the killing of tens of thousands of people for what amounts top war profiteering and bragging rights very Christian. I hope he can forgive...

I also hope he can forgive me for going back on my word and calling RealName a dick, too.

Original article: Not in my backyard, either

On the subject of strays...

We grew up in a 890 square foot house, my 5 brothers, my sister, my parents, and I. Dad had a good job, blue collar, but with 7 kids in 9 years, we were still functionally quite poor. Duct taped shoes and hand me downs from previous decades. Going on 14 hpur field trips with no lunch, and no money for lunch. Making due with what we had, which was never a lot.

One might think, given the story to which I am commenting, this is where I mention my neighbor who also "adopted" us. You'd be wrong. It was us who collected the strays, us who feed the hungry, who clothed the needy. We normally had at least one extra person living in our house and a whole gaggle of strangers who flocked there on a regular basis.

Not all poor people are slobs; not all TV moms are neglectful... they just like TV. Eyes are amazing... they work even if you are standing upright, folding clothes, washing dishes, or even spanking a well deserved ass. Believe me, we deserved it a time or two!

I think the main difference between us and the family in the article is that my parents had a sense of right and wrong. They had a sense of dignity, and helped us carry ourselves with the same dignity. We may have been naive, or even somewhat close to ignorant, about a lot of things, but we were taught to be respectful, we taught how to speak and how to interact with others.

We were poor. Times were tough. But any time I felt bad about my situation, I always thought of the people in this world who didn't have a loving mother, who didn't have a father whose work ethic was just short of legendary.

And I wept for them. I still do.

Original article: Pluto's retreat

Astrologists everywhere in the news...

and who really gives a flying f**k?

All "legit" news organizations who mentioned astrology and Pluto's impact should have the crap kicked out of them. No, it isn't a light, fluff piece. It is a waste of bandwidth on a psuedoscience so stupid that even other psuedoscientists make fun of it.

Enough already.

Original article: A mighty dick

I waved no body part!

I have no interest in playing stupid boy games. I am quite confident in myself for numerous reasons. I am physically confident, because I work really hard in the gym to get strong (and I need the strength to carry around this gorilla belly). I am confident in myself intellectually because I work really hard to learn, know and understand a wide variety of issues and subjects. I an comfident in my looks, even though my nose is crooked from being broken a few times, and I do have some extra padding in the middle (think shaved gorilla).

But if I were to rely on looks alone, I'd probably have had many more nights in solitude.

As for Mr Metro calling me gay, what grade are you in? I am guessing 8th.

Dave
