Don Young (R-AK) just used the bogus Lincoln quote on the House Floor
[Read the article: Several items]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]He led off his statement with it.
Unreal.

Appropos of this is a Haaretz piece that Josh Marshall flagged today.
[Read the article: Emulating the enemy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The United States demanded that Israel desist from even exploratory contacts with Syria, of the sort that would test whether Damascus is serious in its declared intentions to hold peace talks with Israel.
In meetings with Israeli officials recently, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice was forceful in expressing Washington's view on the matter.
The American argument is that even "exploratory talks" would be considered a prize in Damascus, whose policy and actions continue to undermine Lebanon's sovereignty and the functioning of its government, while it also continues to stir unrest in Iraq, to the detriment of the U.S. presence there.
Emphasis mine.

Thompson is either dishonest or a dolt
[Read the article: The grave Iranian threat to world peace]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The most telling thing about Fred Thompson's debate comment about the Iran revolutionary guard meeting virgins in heaven is his casual conflation of arab religious extremists on the one hand with persian revolutionary guards (who are not known in general to be religious extremists, tho I would allow that some exist just because I can't prove a negative) on the other. Note how the mouth breathers in the audience all roar in approval, even though the statement is factually bankrupt. It doesn't make any difference to them, because hey - all brown people from the middle east are alike, right? That's the worldview many of the stay-at-home freedom fighters have adopted.
Fred must know this, which would make him despicable. But if he doesn't, then he's not qualified to be president.

Obama Repudiated AND Denounced Wright Today
[Read the article: Why the Jeremiah Wright story deserves more attention]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]So Obama was for Wright before he was against Wright.
Now that's a narrative the media can wrap their arms around.
Query: How long before the storyline changes to "Obama is a flip-flopping political opportunist who would throw his good friend under a bus"

But the media will forgive him ... again.
[Read the article: Wanting the White House in the worst way]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Because like Ignatius, few are willing to blame McCain for anything him campaign does. So McCain will flog this trash til the convention, then pivot to substance and maybe have a token purging of a Steve Schmidt operative who crossed the line with some YouTube ad. Then the media will marvel at his Maverick-ness, just like they did each time before he got caught being bad.
