Guess I'm confused why Obama didn't use McCain's experience against him. McCain has been to all these countries, McCain has seen these leaders face to face and our foreign policy is a mess, countries don't respect us.
Why not paint McCain into the "old" corner where he lives? McCain is old school, establishment. McCain is old. If McCain isn't able to serve, then America is left with Palin, who is completely clueless. Next debate, he must attack Palin, because she is his weakest link.
Watching this debate and Palin's rote, smiling, winking responses. It's somewhat like watching the home shopping network, only somehow worse. It's a info-mercial gone bad.
Yep, where the president has a stroke and those in power (not the elected guy) get to run the country until the substitute turns on the "establishment".
Palin has proven to be Dave, but continues to be the pawn even after the truth is known. Selected by those in charge to be their spokesperson. Chosen not because she looks like the president (aka Dave) but because she represents what her party thinks will sell to the American public, a pretty, non-established politician, and a hard working WOMAN who successfully juggles work, family and hunting down animals and bridges to no-where?
The folks in power send her out to repeat catch phrases that she has been told to say, clearly with limited understanding of what she is actually saying, while they hope and pray that a pretty face and a wink and a down home smiling face will erase the hard fact that she is way over her head in dealing with the complexities facing our country?
What's sad for me, as a woman, is that she represents my gender in a presidential election. A prom queen who is being manipulated by her party and seemingly goes along with the premise? A woman who doesn't defend a woman's right to choose? A woman who is against teaching birth control with a pregnant 17 year daughter? A woman who seems to be willing to be a token, talking head, only because of her gender? A woman who is way out of her league being manipulated because of her gender and willingness to seemingly toe the party line without comment.
In another venue we would decry this nomination. Is it that different than the beauty queen who gets the secretarial job even though she can't type, file or answer a phone?
Who knows? Sarah Palin could have been a significant player after a few more years in politics. Instead she's sold out her gender, her party and her political life by pretending to be a contender. It's a sad day.
So, all of these folks have decided that in vitro fertilization is wrong if creation begins at conception?
They must make that choice. Embroyo's are created via the in vitro procedures, and these same embroyo's are routinely destroyed -- not via abortion which they oppose, but via clinical destruction.
Can't have both ways. Can't have IVP and support anti-abortion measures if you believe that creation beging when sperm meets egg.
Sadly, these folks who believe that Obama is a Muslim (and as Colin Powell mentioned what's wrong with being a Muslim?) will also campaign against a woman's right of choice while supporting IVP.
sigh.
I think Obama is showing that he is taking action that he will listen to all viewpoints. Hopefully, this will slow down the right rhetoric and begin to bridge the harmful and media-fueled divide between red and blue, right and left, etc.
Let's build a bridge with a respect that we can agree to disagree without casting a villian in every scenario.
for your spot-on summary of tonight's press conference. In addition to the multiple messes both in America and the World that our President has created, in 5 days his strangle-hold on medical research via stem cells should come to an end. And with it, the hope of relief to millions who are suffering because he was 'saving embroyo's' that were never saved, without the option to help another human because of a failed and misguided belief system.
Good bye and good night President W. I can only hope that your post president life brings some value to America because the last 8 years have been horrific.
A couple of points. First, US scientists operate under extremely strict standards both national and internation. Second, no lives are saved. These embryos ARE being destroyed today in countless IVP laboratories either when the parents/donors determine the embryo will not be used or after a period of time when the embryo is no longer viable.
The bill Bush vetoed gave the parents of these embryos the CHOICE to donate their stem cells to science; similar to our established organ donation program. Parents/donors made the choice.
Hundreds of thousands of people could potentially be cured or have their lives enhanced by the use of these cells. We've lost years of clinical research because of Bush's policy. Other countries are now leading the world in ESC research because the US lines are contaminated with mouse cells.
Just another case of standing on a platform built with misinformation and lies.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
The accountability imposed by another country for the CIA's kidnapping and torture reveals much about our own.
