@medina

Wow, after laughing at all the people that seem so defensive here I'm going to be defensive and even strive to be earnest. ;)

No doubt that there might be some racism at play, one of the main reason that people adopt from other countries is it can be easier. Secondly, it's less likely 6 years from now someone will change their mind and sue to retrieve their "baby" from you.

Also, there was a movement here in the US (in the 90's) that thought it was bad for black children to be placed in white parent homes, that it effected the child's racial identity and that it was bad for the child.

Back on topic, huge Sedaris fan (David and Amy) though I don't practice yoga and rarely am I dressed for camping. I do go to the local farmer's market for produce, but the thought of it being a snooty place is funny, it's totally kitschy, touristy and very low brow, but has great variety of stuff that's inexpensive.

My water drinking habits are soooo much better than listed here, I have well water and can pat myself (with quite a bit of self satisfaction) on the back for thinking that bottled water was wasteful and bad for the environment waaaay before it was cool to think so. So there!

I only wish I was cool enough to know who Vampire Weekend was, I'm too old.

@Kitt & hippies

The other day you posted a link to a Santana clip that you said had a girl in it that danced with her expressions. It intrigued me so I watched it to see what you meant.

Now for some reason knowing that you really liked her, it makes me like you even better.

@macgupta

I thought Rachel Maddow did great.

I like that she brought up Obama's (and KO's) stated position on FISA and had Turley there to show why that position was wrong.

I was pleasantly suprised the segment was done at all.

@Canuckistan Bob

I think the peasants of Gloucester actually might have a firmer grasp of the concept.

Maybe they do, but if any of them are anti-abortion they just set back their cause.

If anything would make a young girl think twice about keeping her baby, this display would sure do it.

@poco

Shameful is exactly the word that describes what they have done, and they should be both confronted with it, and be required to pay for their actions. They should be required to pay for the duration of their lives, as their babies will pay for it for the duration of their lives.

I hope you're not prolife. This attitude (more than any) would help sway any young girls facing pregnancy to make the "choice" of abortion.

BTW, I hope you also mean condemning the boys to a lifetime of punishment for their evil deed, too.

Maybe we could go back to the old days and just have shotgun weddings, where the boy really could get killed or beaten if he didn't do right by the girl.

And yet...

..if you watched most of the news yesterday, the contrived controversy of the day regarding Obama was him allowing his girls to be interviewed on Access Hollywood.

Wow, you have to dig to get to the "boring" things like issues and the facts surrounding them, not just Op-ed pieces. Other than my husband, I doubt I know anyone that I could discuss the issue of FISA with.

On the other hand, everyone I know has an opinion on Rev. Wright and will soon have one on the family interview of the Obama's.

Unreal.

Unreal

End of your rope, indeed.

BTW, if Obama loses for some reason, it will be the progressives and liberals that will be blamed. The beltway types will push for an even more "centrist" (hard right) candidate for next time.

@WES

How is Hillary making a stand? What is her position?

Lanny Davis is out there saying Obama is making a great decision. Soderberg (who also defends Obama's stance) was part of the Clinton team.

She's not taking a lead like Feingold or Dodd.

Wednesday, July 9, 2008 09:29 AM

@W.E.S.

I don't think that Hillary has to be "vicious", I was referring to your comment that Hillary was still an option. From your previous posts, I know you supported her.

I don't think that Dodd and Feingold have been radicalized, nor do I think that they are radical lefties. Nor do I think the 32 Dems with the courage to stand with them are voting to undercut Obama (or Hillary).

They are voting for the rule of law. It sucks that it has come to this, and that they are the minority. At least they are the majority of Dems...

@Lanier

Alot of the stuff about the "girls" is pure conjecture. The fact that there was a pact at all is even in dispute.

Unless the girls robbed a sperm bank or drugged and raped an unwilling male, there are two people responsible for the unprotected sex.

Homeless dudes

Again, we only have the principal's word on things.

This is Gloucester, some young fisherman hanging out on his brother's couch (or, for that matter, in a cheap motel) in between gigs could be called "homeless". It just depends if you want to make something more exciting than it is. The tsk-tsk factor gets to go up with the thought of a girl with a scary old guy sleeping on the curb, the 24 year old fisherman isn't as shocking, so not as much fun.

The whole thing is depressing, for the young mothers and fathers, let alone the children.
