"Obama word not to be trusted"

Thanks, whoever advised Obama to change his mind on FISA.

McCain is already pushing the idea, my title is from a quote of his. McCain is not talking about this issue, but he's trying to show a trend and Obama is falling right into this trap.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/06/mccain-on-some.html

Obama "moving" towards the center will be used against more successfully than any strong positions he takes.

p.s. I agree that sometimes it's unfair and not exactly accurate, but that doesn't always matter, does it? Gore or Kerry weren't wimps. Neither was Bush's Dad. Somehow they all managed to be portrayed that way.

@ericurus

And why isn't the Obama camp pushing this characterization of McCain more?

McCain is fortunate to already be labeled the "maverick". Now if he changes his mind, he's seen as having a legit reason. It's not fair, but it must be dealt with.

An advantage that Obama has is any of the over the top criticisms of Obama by McCain surrogates look bad, mean sprited because Obama comes off as a genuinely "nice" guy.

BTW, CNN just played McCain's quote of "Obama's not to be trusted".

Whoever the hell is advising Obama needs to get a freaking clue and wake the hell up!

@nezua

i mean, all the much-heralded New Voters and Youth Support will vanish if this happens on a wide scale. young people are ideal and have powerful passions. it doesn't mean they are stupid.

Exactly. Why dash their hopes before they've even voted?

While we know that whoever we choose will eventually disappoint on some issues, it's ridiculous to suck the enthusiasm out of your core supporters.

@shooter

Allen said "macaca", YOU'RE the one saying it's racist. There's a huge difference.

If someone called me a cracker in anger, only the most obtuse would suggest that it meant that I was buttery smooth, or a nice toasty golden color.

To suggest that Allen would make up a word that just happens to be a slur against brown people used by people with his mother's heritage, is not believable.

I lived in Hawaii, I know many racist terms that are well known there, that are not here. Terms for whites, japanese, portuguese, phillipinos, blacks, etc., you name it. If someone used those terms to describe anyone, I'd know what they meant, even if you didn't. It doesn't mean it's not offensive and immature.

Age

I'm beginning to know who the older folks are around here...the ones that are old enough to remember the Nixon pardon by Ford.

I don't remember ever being taught about it, other than it happened. Maybe that's still the case today outside of law school.

@bethincary

You're not alone in thinking Nixon was charged, I think many people do.

Ford made sure that Nixon was never charged, for "healing" purposes.

That's why I made the comment about age.

No bethincary

Nixon resigned because of certain impeachment.

Nixon was not impeached.

Promotes anti-semitism

What's scary is the neocons views of being hawks all the time, wanting preemptive wars, etc. is painting a false view of what Israel "wants" and what it means to be Jewish.

It's a very negative image that they are projecting.

It's promoting resentment of Israel from people that would normally be sympathetic.

Damn

This is disappointing. And Craig should know better.

And yet...

on CNBC today that actually wondered (with straight faces) if the real reason the stock market is declining is that the Dems nominated Obama and even had a panel to discuss that "issue" today. It was noted that most of the downturn occured after he was picked.

Subprime failures, oil prices, job losses, GM's failures, credit contraction, etc. I guess are minor when you are comparing the devastation that would occur if we returned tax rates for the very wealthy to the miserable level of the Clinton years.

@country mouse

I hope you're able to weather this out. Some fo my friends will not be able to and are probably going to lose their homes.

There were many people that saw these problems coming, warned about them and were proven right. Some gave advice on how to avoid the problems or protect yourself in case things changed for the worse.

Pointing out the obvious is not taking joy in other's suffering.

The same thing was said about those that were against the Iraq war and the problems that would ensue. When they were proven correct in all their warnings they were accused of rooting against America, cheering on the bad guys.

There was no joy in being right on that, either.

No birth control is 100%

But they do improve your odds drastically of not having a baby.

For the poor, the $30-60 a month for the pill is a big hit...plus you need a prescription. If you live rurally it's not like there are free women's clinics available. Well, there are some...but they are usually religious in nature and will tell you to abstain, like the one my sister-in-law volunteers for in Texas.

And for Jim and Brightstar, last I heard, condoms and abstinence are available options for men, too. If the man is not sleeping around unprotected, he is far less likely to be "trapped" by some evil plotting woman who wants his baby.
