@General Zod & RMP

General, first off, how would the internets know the super secret "street" meaning of things. It's so hip and cool (or street...) that people like us wouldn't know the secret meaning.

Good thing all those middle aged Dems listening to Obama were hipper than the rest of us and were able to pick up on it, and it's a great thing all those Repubs with their street cred could decode it for us.

Terms like "coyote ugly", "put a bag over her head", "double bagger" and "buther face" are all so passe. Lipstick on a pig is the most sexist attack on a woman's attractiveness ever! Unless it's about Hillary, and then it's a policy discussion.

@RMP, thanks for the article. It about sums it up. Liars.

@clatech

So, are you saying that McCain wanted to conjure up the image of putting a bag over a lady's head while having sex with her when he used the exact same expression to go after Hillary's plan...3 times?

Or maybe you are saying that McCain wasn't clever enough to understand that...or maybe not "street" enough.

Last thing

yet Dems are struggling to win an election that was practically gift wrapped

Odog, why exactly was this election supposed to be so easy? What have the Republicans done that would have helped a Democrat?

I'd love to hear why you think the Repubs have tarnished their image so that this should have been a gimme.

Heh.

Stephenson

I'm so happy this is out, I didn't know he had a new book being released.

If it starts off slow, no worries, IMO, so did Cryptonomicon (1st 100 pages) and the Baroque Cycle (1st 300 pages) trilogy and I would still list them as some of the best and most exciting things I've ever read. I read Crytonomicom 3 times and the last two books of the Baroque cycle twice.

I would literally dream of Shaftoe's adventures (don't ask him about the lizards) and after I gave the books to my husband, he loved them as much as I did, even if he complained they were preventing him from getting some projects done.

Thanks.

Effective rates

Im' sorry, but I'll bite.

What percentage of FICA taxes are paid by the wealthiest 1%?

What percentage of SS taxes are paid by the wealthiest 1%?

What percentage of income earned is actually recieved by the top 1%?

What percentage of DMV fees (fees ARE a tax) are paid for by the top 1%?

Why is it that if I work and earn a million dollars, I pay taxes on it. If I win the lottery for a million dollars, I pay taxes on it. If I get a bonus for a million dollars, I pay taxes on it. But if I no longer have to work, and can make millions from an investment, that somehow the idea that if I had to pay taxes on it would suddenly kill the economy.

I'm not suggesting going back to the conservative's ideal time in America the 50's, where tax rates were close to 90% on wealth to help pay off the war debt we had occured, but were the 90's really hell on earth?

BTW, no you answer my question. We are in debt. Seriously in debt. Even if we cut every social program out there, we would still be massively in debt. How do you think we should pay for it? Where should we get the tax dollars?

@odog and bad words

http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/005124.php

Yeah, the 527, Citizens United Not Timid, formed by Republicans (including Roger Stone) to get the truth out about Hillary.

Their t-shirt was pretty cute..not subtle.

There wouldn't have to be any mind reading to see if this was a sexist attack.

I'll let you go back to the liberals are mean, Obama used a metaphor and now because Palin said lipstick once, is completely off limits.

@dcbrown

Listen to the tape or watch the entire clip of Obama on Youtube.

Obama wasn't even talking about, let alone attacking, Palin. She wasn't the topic.

He was talking policy and the rest is just manufactured outrage.

Um, bucks, not quite

Okay, right now if I make $50,000 a year I pay more in combined taxes (because income has soooo many others strings attached) than I would be taxed if I make $50,000 in a single stock trade.

Right now, a hedge fund manager that invests other people's money get's taxed 15% on thier income.

Do you get taxed a 15% on yours?

BTW, how are we going to pay for the war? How are we going to pay the billions to bailout Freddie, Fannie, and future banks. How are we going to pay to expand the war against the bad guys in Iran that bomb, bomb mcCain wants to go after. How are we going to pay for it if (God forbid) we were to do what McCain suggested and we were to send the US soldiers to Georgia to defend them against Russia?

Fact is, someone needs to pay.

I guess someone who makes a million dollars a year from their money working for them (I have no problem with that, I've done projects for a few) shouldn't be burdened with protecting the country as much as someone who labors for the same amount. It would be unfair to the investor.

Borrow and spend Repubs

No Arne, you're not getting it.

By Republican logic, if you borrow enough money and spend it on your buddies, you're thoughtful and pragmatic, it's good for the economy.

A ton of those suburb voters felt very, very rich (a number of them are in my family) because they were busy spending all of their imaginary equity during the Bush boom, the goldilocks economy. Now they just have debt.

It's funny, now that that system has failed many on a personal level, they now expect the same failed system to hold up on a federal level and state level.
