Minor functionaries

Last comment...I don't buy the Yoo story as being uninteresting to the "regular" folks. But the MSM will not be able to say that about the group that not just ok'd torture, but practically orchestrated it.

It's already a headline at Yahoo!, ABC and a few other places. Josh Marshall has story on his front page. We'll get a chance to see if the MSM thinks Ashcroft, Powell, Tenet and Rumsfeld are too much of the past to comment on, but they won't be able to say that about Rice or Cheney.

I guess the jokes about Rice in her boots weren't that far off. I'm appalled.

Sorry

It is no longer a headline at Yahoo!, I can't even find it on their news page.

TalkingPointsMemo still has the link.

Another article

It looks like Addington even had the pleasure to witness an interogation. Unreal.

@jazzlstnr

Things can get a bit strange at the end of threads, so do not doubt that people are reading what you wrote and thinking about it, regardless of the comments that your posts get.

Original article: Who's in charge here?

@saintzak

My fear is that most people don't know about these issues. You have to be a news junkie to even find them discussed.

My guess is if the story does get some traction, we'll have the trial of the killer of the pregnant Marine to contend with 24/7. Either that or there will be some young celebrity who has yet another public breakdown we can tut tut over.

Even if he WAS Schumer's choice.

Yeah, too bad all those Republican's weren't able to block him.

@C.O.Jones

Shooter is obviously trying to imply that this was a New York Jewish conspiracy

Maybe I'm wrong, but that's not shooter's typical m.o.

He's more of the crowd that reacts to a Repub failing by screaming Clinton had a blow job, Clinton (Bill) backed the war, Clinton fired attorneys, etc.

I think this caswe of bringing Schumer into it is more a case of trying to make it seem that Mukasey was pushed by Dems' in general.... You know, like when Lieberman alone stands with Repubs and it's touted as bi-partisan support.

Lately I've seen the spike in oil prices reduced to only the most recent spike, so it's all the Dem's fault, along with Clinton being responsible for the housing bubble, blah, blah, blah.

If you want to see real reaches, you need to got to some of the financial boards. The normaly hard core anti-tax crowd blames Bill Clinton for reducing capital gains taxes on homes as the reason for the bubble that exists today... A reduction in the only capital gains tax that average American's pay are seen as a problem. I guess tax breaks are only for the wealthy, otherwise they are dangerous and risky to the economy.

Spell check

Hmm, I wish there was an edit function, I see at least 4 errors in my previous post that I obviously should have checked before hitting the publish button.

Sorry, I will hit preview (and do so) in the future.

@Derbig

Thanks for your kind words. I had 4 mistakes that were obvious, I really have no excuse.

@Allie

It appears she was fine with being able to do anything and not get prosecuted for it until she realized it also applied to her.

Yeah, I'm sure this woman hired as a paramedic was instrumental in writing the rules (or lack thereof) of engagement for contractors.

Apologies

This is a time for Obama to acknowledge that he made a mistake, apologize and rephrase.

B.S.

I am sick to death of Democrats constantly apologizing. Reid makes a comment that is spot on, the RW starts clutching their pearls and instantly Reid apologizes for hurting someone's oh so sensitive feelings.

When was the last time Cheney apologized? Hell, the guy he shot in the face apologized to him instead. It gives an aura of strength, deserved or not.

I have no problem with a candidate (Obama or Hillary) rephrasing, explaining, clarifying, etc...but enough of the Democrats constantly being pushed into the corner of apologizing for every damn thing that comes out of their mouth. It makes them look weak, which plays right into the hands of the Republicans.

@episcomom

I agree with you, I thought it was an article praising Obama's skill.

There are a few people here at Salon that are spring loaded to see attacks on their candidates whether they exist or not.

@cythera45

Reagan Dems will flock to McCain to escape them.

Yeah, the ones that hate the brown folks will and screw them, they shouldn't be catered to anyway. Though they don't really trust McSame since he doesn't seem to blame the illegals "enough" for all the ills that face the country now....

BTW, the Reagan Dems....they don't like NAFTA much and are very cautious of Hillary, too.

@hunthorse

The people being interrogated may be the very people who want to chop off your heads.

And they may not, but who gives a damn, huh?

Do you realize that most of us would admit to anything to stop torture happening to us, let alone the thought that your kids testicles could be crushed if you didn't "confess"?

What is that testimony worth and what did it prove?

Many American Vietnam POW's "admitted" to being a war criminals while in custody, did it make it true...or was it frigging coerced?
