Ben Dover

As for the woman that says she's 5'9" and 160 and NOT FAT, I have to agree that's she's probably telling the truth...especially if she works out all the time.

I know many women that flat out lie about their weight so people have unrealistic expectations. From my very unscientific experience in exercise classes, the gym, friends, etc, most women that are "in shape" will say they weigh about 135 if they are tall, 120 if not. Women that know they need to lose a little will admit to 145. Women that are heavy will cop to 160 to 180.

My sister appears tiny, wears a size 2-4, is just under 5'4 and weighs 130. She is a competitive triathlete.

Another girlfriend is about 5'10, weighs about 165, has a flat stomach and her hip bones jut out, and because of that looks great in low rider jeans or a tiny bikini. Her shoulders are broad and she's a big girl, but trust me, she isn't heavy in the slightest and has a great figure by anyone's standards.

Kirstie Alley who did get quite large, only admits to hitting 205. She's lost 75 lbs and is tall...there is NO WAY she weighs 125-130 now, in the ads I've seen, she's still probably closer to 175, though that's still an achievement.

You sound tall and slender, admit that you know men that are your height and weigh more and still can be in great shape. I bet Kobe Bryant is alot heavier than 215 and he doesn't need to lose weight.

I also think that some of the others here do sound holier than thou, but my guess is they are younger. When I was in my 20's, I could eat a meatball sub w/ chips for lunch everyday and not suffer any consequences. Today, if I ate a meatball sub once a week I'd gain weight.

Regarding Kobe

Okay, I checked Kobe's official weight and he is lighter than I thought, but I stand by my comment that there are athletic men that are as tall as Ben Dover, but much heavier, and still in good, or even excellent shape.

Women athletes in particular

You're right about Kobe, but look at women athletes, especially tall ones, they frequently weigh more than you think.

I was responding to your snide comments to a woman saying that she's fat at 5'9" and 160. I say you have no idea until you see her. If she has small bone structure and never works out, she may well be fat, but that doesn't sound like the case.

For example, Jenny Thompson (Olympic gold medalist swimmer) was 5'10 and 160 and in great shape. Many of the taller women soccer players no longer list their weight, but I read one that was 5'8 and 150. Look at the WNBA (and like the men, not at the freakishly tall) you get a wide range of weights for the same height.

If you try to look up weights for current volleyball, tennis, etc. women it's harder to find...and not because they are less fit than they were in the past.

Fair enough

Yes, I did have bad habits. Now I watch what I eat and exercise (run 4 -5 times a week) and still do not have the metabolism that I had when I was younger, but it's okay, I just have to monitor my choices.

All this aside, I would rather cut 100 calories a day from my diet by getting rid of milk in my coffee, etc. than shitting my pants in public.

I still would love to see who the demographic is that buys this product. The product would have severe side effects on someone that truly over ate fats. Oily farts, indeed. I bet your average overweight woman would be willing to try the medicine (because of the advertisements), but I can't see them continuing on.

I would hazard a guess this will be used more by someone that's probably not heavy but counts their calories to the single digits and is obsessive.

"The Secret" and Falwell

As another poster pointed out, Falwell (much bigger audience than Churchill, expect for RW blogs, of course) was the one that blamed the ACLU, abortionists, etc. for God allowing 9/11 to occur. Not quite blame America, but liberal, secular America for the attack.

A very conservative coworker of mine agreed with Falwell and defended his point of view. I see that as agreing with Osama, since he said he was doing God's will. If you agree with Falwell, Osama was just doing God's will.

The other group of people that may believe that 9/11 was deserved are the followers of the whole "positive thinking" in the extreme fanatics. I guess the folks that died in the WTC didn't envision themselves living long, happy lives without terror strongly enough.

Both "The Secret" and Falwell both have a much wider audience than Churchill could ever dream of.

Jumping back in

Rampart, I'm glad I'm not as offensive as Ben Dover. I like you better than him, too. (g)

On the other hand, about calories and nutrition that you and Anonymous are arguing about, if someone ate nothing but Oreo cookies and twinkies and limited themselves to 800 calories a day, they would lose weight, and to many, look much "healthier".

In the long run, it would be a very bad idea and would have consequences, but for years, the effects would look good.

Anonymous, do you get sarcasm?

Good Lord, the whole point is NO ONE is a Ward Churchill follower. Well, expect for that one anarchist that chimed in, but who cares?

That's like saying that Christian's all worship at the church of Fred Phelps...

El Cid, priceless

If Ward Churchill hadn't been teaching his whatever courses in Colorado or where ever, the 9/11/2001 attacks could never have happened, because otherwise there might have been a strong, manly conservative at the helm of the nation who never would have allowed such calumny.

Thank you, priceless.
