Credit where due

I didn't feel left out, in fact, I was glad to not be in the fray on this one... I've picked on you in the past, but not here, on Glenn's blog I agree with you frequently, it's just in Opus land where I'm at a loss. (g)

The book is worth reading, though as Anonymust points out above, they said it first, I only seconded the recommendation. They are the one that feels left out, I guess...

Anonymust, your comments about Catholicism and the military made me laugh, my father was a boarding school, Jesuit educated Marine. It just compounds everything, I guess. He himself was a softie, he turned most, if not all of his anger issues inward, but the environment isn't just at home, it's how you are raised on base. It all comes into play.

@AKA

I don't see Rudy winning the R nomination myself, I just used him as an example of what the RW expects of a candidate on foreign policy. Anyone to the left of that far right line will be called weak, soft, appeasing, etc.

Today a centrist seems to be someone who wants to bomb Iran in a year or two, not tommorow morning. All of our candidates will have to learn how to deal with that and fight against it, because despite labels, the American people are NOT clamoring to fight another war of choice in the Middle East, let alone remain indefinitely in Iraq.

My fear is that the likable candidate will win the R primary, that's Huckabee. We keep talking about a subway series and it might be an Arkansas one. He shares the same views as most of the conservatives but is low key, funny, comes off "nice". He'd be formidable.

p.s. I have to agree about Hillary coming off better when she's attacked in reality. I'm not a fan, but some of the injustice of the attacks makes me want to rush to defend her.

Benefit of a doubt, Garry

Again, I call upon you to go among our troops and see and learn and challenge your own conceptions of the military and how it works.

I hope you mean with veterans, because this sounds disturbingly like the stuff that Boylan ranted at Glenn in the first place.

Except that Boylan said Glenn didn't have the balls for going to Iraq, you just say that he's a lawyer so I guess that means he's coddled.

I think you are looking for an insult here when there was none. The insult was to a Colonel, a decision maker, a mouthpiece.

I agree with him, more than most

What's scary is I used to consider myself a moderate Republican and now I find that whenever I take a poll/questionaire of my positions, the candidate that I most closely align to is Dennis. I now realize I'm a progressive (post 9/11) and I wish Kucunich had a chance.

What's even more bothersome is my Republican boss agrees on practically every issue with me and thinks that Guiliani is his man.

What sucks is if he had Romney's looks, he might be a contender.

Contract it out

I don't doubt that actual CIA agents won't stand by and watch actual torture, that's why we now contract so much of the job out.

Accused sympathizer

I guess that conservatives think that if your name is Arabic, that being "accused" means never being afforded any rights what so ever.

Scary.

House Committee on Unamerican Activities

Funny you should mention that, if you go over to Powerline's comments, they want that committe to be brought back. They're eager for it and want Ellison to be broguth before it.

They also don't seem to understand that reporter that is on a hunger strike is being force fed so are making fun of him as a fraud.

I love that they think liberals are "bedwetters" as they go on about the scary people that are out to get us everywhere and how we need to give up more rights to protect ourselves.

Tests for innocence

These people who applaud the detentions, torture, etc. are the same people that would have cheered when the "witches" were tested with drowning, sword ladders, presses, etc.

If the "witches" had been innocent, they would have survived. Unless of course, the test was survival, then they'd be punished for that, too.

Many of those people were deeply afraid, too. It doesn't excuse it.

Bilal Hussein

Look up Bilal Hussein's (with "photographer" to cut down on false hits) name on Google - search news and you'll see this story is hardly getting any play in the MSM. There were 5 stories.

If you look at the web in general there is more, with Malkin and Greenwald being among the top.

I'm getting to the point that if Malkin said dogs were cute I'd have to reavaluate my opinion of dogs. At least she's not a lawyer like Scott Johnson and Debbie Schlussel, who really should know better.

BTW, if you look up Debbie's bio note, she mentions that she was a "National Merit Scholar Finalist" and MENSA as part of her accomplishements. OMG, that's from taking the PSAT test in high school...I know because I was, too. And this is the first time as an adult professional that I'm saying it. BTW, who brings up their IQ in a resume?

@oomoex

On giving a sh@t, if I tried talking about this issue to practically anyone I know, they'd ask me what the heck I'd been reading, and how do I know if it's even true? It really does suck.

These guys are only getting this little amount of attention because they are journalists. Where Bilal Hussein is being kept there are over 10,000 being held. I wonder how many of them are there for questionable reasons.

It's all on the table.

With regards to being paranoid regarding Iran, they were just one of the potential nuclear targets according to TPM today.
