@Rambling Rose 22

It should reassure you that Obama is picking the same types of people Hillary Clinton would have picked had she been President, and the reaction here would be the same.

Relief.

Relief at getting rid of some of Bush's team that helped put the economy in the precarious position it is in today. The borrow and spend conservatives have really run up the tab.

I don't know that it's possible to fix all that is broken, but I do know that we had to stop the direction the Bush economy was taking us. This is a small step.

@something stinks

Heh. If you think that's syrupy, do not go anywhere near the books or watch the movie.

What?

Aren't these the same people that said we needed to be careful, because Obama was a Marxist in his belief system? Joe Lieberman even said it was a valid concern. The more reasonable critics on the right just said Obama was a liberal that liked projects that would bring us closer to socialism.

Now these same people say Obama was always a centrist and needs to stay that way.

Yep, I believe their analysis, they've been so accurate in the past.

@Asehpe

You might enjoy the books if you could find interesting an old fashioned romance novel that's written for young women that spends quite a bit of time obsessing over how handsome Edward Cullen is. I'm not saying that in a bad way, just in a descriptive way.

I daresay the first couple of books would bore your average adult male to death. The last two books in the series might be more interesting. The author does well at conveying the yearning that alot of girls I know went through in their teens.

I did read all of the books, though didn't "love" them. I felt comfortable recommending them to my stepmother, but I know her taste in books.

@asage

And rape fantasies? Exactly the opposite.

You're right. It's more about the desire to be seduced, to be swept off your feet.

@Elephantman

Actually, Ziegler wanted to write the questions for the McCain supporter test, too. (I'll add some at the bottom of my test...)

And as for the loaded question part, wasn't it around 85% of Obama supporters that knew the Dems controlled Congress these last two years? Ziegler said that those numbers weren't valid since it was a 50-50 chance of getting it right, so you can't give them credit.

By that logic, I suppose that the 75% of Republicans in Texas that knew Obama wasn't a Muslim should be discounted as just guessing, too.

***

Here's some hypothetical poll questions from Ziegler to test McCain supporters.

Which candidate stood up to big oil and the old boys network in Alaska?

Which candidate said "Thanks but no thanks to the Bridge to Nowhere" and fought earmarks. (Not having a possible correct answer didn't deter him the first time)

Which candidate was a POW and sacrificed years of his life in Vietnam?

Which party has a team of candidates known as mavericks?

Which candidate has a special needs child and loves and respects children?

If you knew that McCain was willing to fight for the rights of all citizens to be able to vote, would you more likely support him or not?

If you knew Palin supported and stood by her daughter when she was pregnant, would you more likely support her or not?

@Ramesees

Hey, I just used the term "creepy" in my comment.

I don't think there were any deep seated reasons for it...it was just a simple way to describe Mickey Rourke's personna in "9 1/2 Weeks". It was a simple way to sum up manipulative, control freak, obsessive, cloying, cruel, etc. all into one word that showed an instinctive distate.

Sometimes a word is just an overused word.

Hairyfed's wife is right

It's because they are good looking.

Add to that the way the movies portray them, sexy, brooding, intense, physical, strong, possessive, blah, blah, blah. Not everyone wants all those things in a relationship (especially the obsessiveness and intensity), but there can be some, um, appeal for the short term (g).

It reminds me of the appeal that 9 1/2 weeks had for so many women I knew. Even though Mickey Rourke was kind of hot back then, the character creeped me out ot much to find the movie good. He would have had me running for the hills in about 5 minutes.

Christmas wishes

I guess Jesus wants people to buy cheap plastic crap made in foreign countries (that they can't afford) to show their belief in him.

That other stuff, church, prayer, family dinners...not as important.

@johntfrazer & Elephantman

Good points.

For the "poll" to be equivalent would have to ask McCain-Palin questions that were as bogus as:

Which candidate started their political career by smearing their Christian opponent with being Jewish and not being legally married, both of those which were untrue?

Which candidate's career was funded by family money tainted by the Mob?

Which candidate is married to a confessed thief and drug addict?

Would you be more likely or less likely to vote for McCain-Palin if you knew that they wanted to charge women that had abortions with murder?

Would you be more likely or less likely to vote for McCain-Palin if you knew that they wanted to overturn the endangered species list and allow game hunting in national parks?

BTW, Elephantman, I'm not suggesting that any of these questions are fair or exactly accurate, I'm just saying they could be framed that way, and a typical Repub would go WTF if confronted with them. That would be the equivalent Ziegler poll, I'm not suprised no one wants to pay for it. What would it really prove?
