Merrily coughing
[Read the article: There's a cougher in the office and it's driving me mad!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"It is a terrible thing that the perpetrator coughs. But what appalling manners to merrily inflict it on others. "
Yeah, I'm sure the "cougher" is totally happy to be so annoying. That's why the guy explains all the doctor visits and everything else he is doing to combat the situation.
I guess coughers should not be able to go to work in an office since they might disturb someone.

Good article
[Read the article: Pit bulls are innocent]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Thank you so much for the article. I agree that these laws are ridiculous, especially since they are so ill defined. As you say, what is a pit bull? My boxer certainly wasn't, but she easily matches some of the physical characteristics.
The most aggressive (and dangerous) dogs I've ever known have been Akitas. But as another poster pointed out, they are fuzzy faced, so people aren't afraid of these bear killers.
I found a pit once wondering down the road, I thought it had been attacked by coyotes. He was a sweet, submissive, obedient little guy to me, but NOT to any of the men. I rounded him up and called animal control and the officer (a woman thank goodness, for the dog's sake) showed me that this was an old fighting dog that had obviously been dumped after a loss. Too many scars and healing wounds in addition to the major wounds I saw for this to have been an accident.
This dog was a victim of some asshole that ruined him. It took work to train him to be a constant fighter...while some fighting is natural in the dog world, the type these dogs are trained to do is not. It takes effort and abuse.
These "pit bulls" are being blamed because many assholes that want a dog that looks tough get them. If the breed is banned, another "dangerous" breed will be found to fill the void, like Rotts, Shepards, Akitas, Chows, Dobies, etc. All will need to be trained to be vicious just like the pits.

Locked doors
[Read the article: Pit bulls are innocent]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm not for banning pits or any form of BSL. The sort of people that want to have bad ass dogs to use in fights or to intimidate their neighbors will easily find another dog to torment into being psycho. The Akita would be perfect.
That having been said, the pits that attacked the disabled woman came through her pet door that was for her own animal. These dogs somehow managed to access her yard and then her house. She is blameless....and frankly, even if she left her door unlocked, she is blameless. An unlocked door or open window does not excuse ANYTHING...it's not an invitation to dog mauling, burglary, rape or murder.
I had neighbors once with "street dog" pits and they broke through my fence and ransacked my backyard. My fence was a well built, sturdy wood fence, it did nothing to stop them from coming through. Big, determined dogs can do some pretty amazing things. My old boxer could easily clear our 6 foot fence if she had a running start, I had to get creative in preventing her escape.

Closets
[Read the article: The U.S. senator and the bathroom stall]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Elephantman, I agree that being gay isn't a crime nor does it make someone a perv. Soliciting sex in a public restroom (gay or straight) is apparently is against the law (and pervy), thus Craig got in trouble.
As for Vitter, he also wasn't just having an affair, he was paying for it...also against the law.
If Barney Frank got caught in a restroom soliciting sex do you mean to say that it wouldn't be an issue? Or if Bill Clinton had to hire hookers that it wouldn't be an issue?
The part that amuses us liberals so much is the finger pointing holier than thou family values guys seem to have a bunch of skeletons in their closets. Some of the people that are so worried that gay marriage will ruin conventional marriage in this country are in relationships outside of marriage that are not conventional, or legal.
Barney Frank isn't out there decrying homosexuality and isn't breaking any laws.
Patrick Kennedy shows the extent that abused prescription drug offenses (how most upper class folks abuse drugs) are not treated the same way a meth or crack head is. Rush Limbaugh's treatment shows the same thing. Only difference is Kennedy wasn't blathering on and on about locking druggies up and stiffening their sentences.
It's the hypocrisy.

Overzealous Cops
[Read the article: The U.S. senator and the bathroom stall]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Jim, Craig pleaded guilty.
Also, on other forums I've read the gay guys are all laughing that straight guys don't know all the signals and cues...my guess is Craig and the cop do know them.

Loitering outside the door
[Read the article: The U.S. senator and the bathroom stall]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Craig "loitered" outside the stall of the cop for a couple of minutes staring in through the crack at him and "fidgeted" with his fingers. I'm just guessing here that the fidgeting might have been "lewd".
I do feel sorry for the guy and the shame an embarassment he and his family are going through. I would feel sorrier for him if he wasn't such a hypocrite.

Barney
[Read the article: The U.S. senator and the bathroom stall]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yep, Barney Frank is openly gay and has never been accused or arrested for lewd acts in public or of hiring prostitutes. I am openly heterosexual and have never been accused of these types of behavoir either.
Frank and I are the same in that respect and should be treated as the law abiding citizens we are.
Craig and Vitter do not fit that category, do they?
