There Was a "Progressive Movement" But Not A "Liberal Movement"

Liberal is a stupid label whereas Progressive has an actual history and philosophy attached to it!

Go on..Google The Progressive Movement or Wikipedia the phrase and it will bring up a lot of proud history of reforms.

Now try to do the same with "Liberal" and see what comes up. Not much.

Liberal has no There there!

Was Mother Jones a liberal or a Progressive?

Again it just bears repeating that it was the Progressive Movement of the early 1900's that we are self-identifying with!

I can tell you exactly what a Progressive is and what they stand for and what they have done in the history of this country.

What the fuck is a liberal? What is the defining philosophy of the "liberal movement"? I mean, there just isn't any actual meaning or history to the label.

Let the "liberal" label fade away.

Here's Where Michael Lind Gets Deeply COnfused

Check out this slightly faulty logic:

"The word "liberal" is a badge of pride. What is more embarrassing in 2008, to be associated with self-described liberals like Roosevelt and Johnson, Martin Luther King Jr. and Barbara Jordan...."

Problem: the average person would most likely never label Roosevelt as a liberal or King. If they think of them as anything they would think of them as Progressives.

Most people don't associate the word "liberal" with good stuff, frankly.

Liberal implies over-doing it.

"That guy snorted coke so liberally he...died. Painfully and alone. If only he hadn't been so liberal with his drug use!"

Like it or not most people think of liberals in the exact same context as eco-terrorists burning down houses in Aspen or Dennis Kucinich.

Let's just all get on the bandwagon on go with Progressive.

So A 900 Year Old Vampire Still Finds 16 Year Old Chicks Interesting? Really!?!

This is the part of the formula that most lazy overpaid writers seem incapable of understanding.

This guy, Edward, is old enough to see major world events play out and has more maturity through direct experience with the world then just about anyone else.

Are we really supposed to believe he would find talking to Bella really fascinating and engaging?

"I remember fighting in the first World War and I remember tramping around America during the Great Depression..."

"That, uh, like all super and stuff but, uh, Project Runway is on now and I gotta text my BFF cuz we like totally watch it together and stuff."

"My God Bella! You are the most surprising and engaging mortal I have ever encountered in my hundreds of years of exsistence!" coos a bedazzled Edward.

"Yeah! I know, right? I'm all that! Wanna touch my boob?"

But then again this story is aimed at 15 year old girls and not adults so I guess in their adolescent minds its perfectly plausible that a 900 year old male would still find 16 year old high school chicks "fascinating" and want to spend the next 800 years just hanging out with them and, you know, like, whatever.

I wonder if they reversed genders if the story would still work?

What if it were a 900 year old female vampire who fell in love with a 16 year old boy?

Would that be more or less plausible?

I think it would sure make for a much more interesting take!

No matter how old a man gets (even if its hundreds of years old!) they still wanna fuck, er, excuse me, "love forever" 16 year old chicks. No real surprises there. Not too much suspension of disbelief to swallow that one. Old guys dig hot young chicks.

But! But would a 900 year old (but very sexy and hot!) vampire female fall in love with a 16 year old teenage boy the same way Edward fell in love with Bella? Would it be more or less plausible or more or less creepy?

Would we still be using "rape fantasy" to describe that particular vampiric love story?

I think that story would be a much, much harder sell.

Why Do People Rob Banks? Easy Money. Not Much Deeper Than That!

Ashley originally justified her prostitution by saying, "It's not different than going home with a guy from the club you don't know. At least I can get paid for it."

Only much later does she try to pretend that it was a "horrible" lifestyle that she was driven to because of a troubled home life.

Bullshit.

She fucked okay looking guys once in awhile for a lot of money.

Hardly the "horrible" life she is now trying to protray it as.

It was simple, easy money and she didn't mind it. Fucking a okay-looking older guy for A LOT of cash once a week is not exactly a terrible life.

But you can't come right out and say that on national TV, can ya Ashely, wihtout losing a lot of sympathy from the public.

Being a $30 crack whore and fucking 20 guys A DAY and living in a shitty roach infested apartment? A horrible life no one wants.

Being a bubbly 23 year old that fucks one or two guys every other week for a TON of cash?

Not exactly a tragedy.

Obama Had To Keep Him. A New Guy Would Take Months To Get Going

Some people are saying, "Dammit! You shoul dhave picked a Dem to PROVE that Dems are just as tough!"

Yes, that would have been the politically correct move designed to win elections 4 years from now....but a bad idea to handle the crisis in Iraq right now!

Yeah, it sucks, but the truth is that training a new guy would slow things down.

Want a withdrawl in 12 months?

Then you better not waste it with a new guy (and his/her team) trying to learn the rops for 6 or 7 of those months!
