FDR was all about bold action and achieving results in the face of a crisis.
When the country was struggling with the Great Depression Roosevelt took ACTION to tackle the problem. One of the things he did was establish the Civilian Conservation Corps. A brilliant (and incredibly bold) idea that not only put people back to work (giving them money to spend, which meant stores could sell, which meant manufacturers could produce goods, etc) and had the visionary concept of improving America at the same time through massive conservation projects.
FDR himself summed up his proposal best:
"First, we are giving opportunity of employment to one-quarter of a million of the unemployed, especially the young men who have dependents, to go into the forestry and flood prevention work. This is a big task because it means feeding, clothing and caring for nearly twice as many men as we have in the regular army itself. In creating this civilian conservation corps we are killing two birds with one stone. We are clearly enhancing the value of our natural resources and second, we are relieving an appreciable amount of actual distress."
We're experiencing large scale economic downturn and unemployment while at the same time our infrastructure in crumbling.
We're also experiecing major ecological problems with erosion and disappering wetlands and more.
We're also proposing massive new construction projects for new solar arrays, geo-thermal plants, winf farms, etc.
We need to reinstitute the CCR and WPA even if on a temporary basis. Someone has got to rebuild those bridges and sewers.
We need a bold vision for tackling the issues and literally rebuilding America -- and all we're getting from Obama is a luke warm reassurance that, you know, we'll look into maybe creating a committee to think about stuff. In the mean time try to properly inflate your tires.
Properly inflate your tires?"
The reason everyone is talking about that is because he hasn't laid out a bold plan. Small tax credits and vagues promises to form a comittee to possibly look into new ideas would've buried FDR had he come out with such a wimpy platform back in the day.
We need a heroic figure -- not a HR manager trying to get everyone "motivated" by having a Hawiian Shirt Day once a month.
And that's how Obama appears when you compare him to FDR.
FDR is a near-legendary leader whose exploits read like a comic book superhero.
Obama seems like a really nice HR Manager that thinks buying a cake for people when they have a birthday at the office is an effective motivational tool.
Don't get me wrong. Obama is awesome compared to Bush or McCain. But compared to FDR? He's just a nice guy.
Go on...ask ANYONE who voted for Bush in 2004 what Pres. Bush position on steel tarrifs was and is.
a) They don't know what his position was then or is now
b) They literally have no idea what a tarrif is or what is does
c) THEY DON'T CARE!
51 percent of all voters are idiots. Yes, that means you in small town America. Do I "hate" small town America? Nope, but a fact is a fact. Not one Bush supporters or PALIN supporters has the slightest concept of what a tarrif is or does. Does that make them stupid? YES IT DOES!
I'm looking you right in the eye and saying to your face, small town America, that you are a uneducated moron that has no understanding of 99 percent of the complex policy issues that the candidates will actually be dealing with once in office. Again, you are idiots. They do know that Palin is hot with big jugs and that's good enough for them. How else can you realistically describe someone who has literally no idea what Palin's positions are and votes for her simply because she's a hottie? The only description is: idiot.
You are from small towns. You hate foreigners. You think women should be barefoot and pregnant. And you think "dem thar coloreds" ought to know their place. That is a bad thing! You are an embarrasment to America.
SOMEONE HAS GOT TO SAY IT OUT LOUD!
We've tried to coddle the Red States. We've tried to not mention that they are racists, misogynistic and slightly retarded. They throw hissy fits whenever we mention how backward they are so, being sensitive to that, we try not to mention it.
Didn't work. Being nice didn't work. They still won't vote fer dat there colored Muslim boy. They done like that hottie with the big cans! Yee-haw!
So let's stop worrying about small town Americas feelings. Being nice to them and pretending that they are smart, tolerent and concerned with civil liberties and social justice just plain and simple doesn't work.
So let's stop being nice and call these idiots...idiots! It won't change the voting outcome cuz they weren't gonna vote fer no commie Muslim anyhow.
It won't change their votes and I know I'll feel a helluva lot better (we all will) speaking the truth than smiling and pretending that these idiots are decent Americans.
