And BTW

A filibuster isn't a filibuster if you don't actually filibuster!

All the repugs have done is threaten a filibuster, and the democrats have rolled over like a cheap whore.

Let me get this straight

It's OK for the reps to steamroll legislation through when they're in charge, as they did through the Bush years, but the Democrats, led by the nutless wonder Reid, can't do shit with out a super majority?

Fuck these feckless politicians.

Vote out all incumbents in the next election, and the next. Disconnect these lapdogs of industry from their gravy train.

@jason

appear to spend any time contemplating the fact that our adversaries in Afghanistan spend much of their time targeting, not Americans, but other Muslims."

Sooo, I'm going to guess that you're behind our occupation of AF because of the deaths of the Muslims AQ has caused? How altruistic.

But I'm curious, how do you then reconcile that with the number of innocent Muslim bystanders WE have killed, or caused by the disturbances due to our presence? I dare say, the total number of civilian dead since we have invaded both IR and AF dwarfs the number who'd have died had we never gone in in the first place.

Side note - annual cost per US soldier to put them in harm's way in the Middle East?

ONE MILLION DOLLARS Do the math and get the fuck out already.

@gratefule

i'm sick of hearing you can't advocate for war unless you're willing to fight personally. That would eliminate Hillary and Obama from making a decision to go to war -- they never showed any interest in joining the military. When are the libs going to stop that stupid argument?

Maybe when the assholes who never served, who never had the balls to put their own lives on the line, stop telling the rest of us that's what WE need to do is put OUR lives on the line for their bullshit ideology.

Being too old for the regular service, I signed up for the reserves the day the first Gulf war started. And I HATE the idea that we waste young lives and bankrupt our treasury for these bullshit 'missions' that was started by W and his criminal lying cronies. Not to mention continued by Obama and his cronies.

That's when us stupid libs are going to stop. What's your excuse for stupid arguments?

@mjkoch

nor do they condemn the Moslem against Moslem attrocities being committed in Iraq. Christians and Jews don't behave this way.

No. Jews kill through the air in Gaza, and shoot sitting ducks in schools. they don't do it up close and personal. And completely destroy the infrastructure of other neighboring countries.

And Christians, I mean Americans, invade entire nations with huge forces, using depleted uranium munitions that have the added benefit of disfiguring the offspring of the recipi9etns of said arms. Resulting in the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocents.

They certainly don't behead a few individuals up close and personal though. But you may want to talk to our special forces and General McChrystal about that.

Truth be told

We are now in the "oohh, shiny pebble!! consumer and media reporting age.

Problem being, the 'legitimate' media doesn't look closely enough at stories to be able to tell a shiny pebble from a polished turd, let alone the fringe media sources.

Easy lesson is to simply ignore these stories until the excited hand-clapping and pants-wetting has subsided. And even then, don't just accept anything at its face. do your own homework.

And don't treat Glenn too harshly. Though I read him frequently, and appreciate his perspective, he is in the business of online story-telling. We all succumb to the temptation to flinch at times. He is guilty less than most.

Closing the loop

'enmesh the courts ineluctably in an assessment of the validity of the rationale of that policy'

It is absolutely amazing that 'educated' jurists fail to discern the difference between the rationale for and legality of policy. I thought that these courts were intended to presided over by those considered the cream of the crop, having consummate legal minds and particularly the ability to analyze nuance in the execution of their duties, not by toadies of the executive, whose conclusions are instead ideological.

The loop has been closed. The judiciary is now in the business of rubber-stamping the actions of the government, laws be damned. All that remains is for the Supremes to become the official arm of the executive and it's over. We are authoritarian. I just never figured it would be under the Democrats.

I think the mantra of the day is:

We are so fucked

@atmomouse QE NOT!!

Funny you use a term of logic to describe your illogical statements.

If A, then B = C?

Do the real math.

Country A is attacked by opponent B. 3000 people are killed, seven buildings are leveled.

Country A attacks B. Government removed, safe haven destroyed.

THEN Country A attacks country C, which had nothing to do with attacks. Is on the hook for trillions in run-on costs.

Country A kills, or its action directly result in the killing of, hundreds of thousands of civilians in C.

Country A tortures and abuses prisoners in the battle to maintain its good name, doing just the opposite in the process.

Even IF, which I don't buy, the lack of attacks were the result of these actions? At what cost?
