The only way to attack the illegal immigrant problem is by penalizing the businesses that use their labor, either by huge fines or jail terms, which Republicans are not going to do to their friends. As long as the GOP and moderate Dems refuse to address this issue it will cause a huge problem. Poor and working class Americans are the ones suffering, while the rich get richer using cheap labor.
Yeah, everybody wants a good life, but this flood of illegal immigrants is hurting our underclass. I sympathize with them, but also with our working class who is ending up out in the cold.
This issue can hurt both parties.
Sounds exactly like reinsurance to me. The insurance industry has been doing that forever. That way no company takes a single huge hit for large losses. If they did not do that, insurance companies would be going out of business every time a big hurricane hit.
If it is significantly different, I would like to know how.
Women like foreplay? Sure, next you are going to try and tell me that women can have orgasms as well. [/snark]
illiberal, the reason gas companies do not build refineries has nothing to do with environmentalists. The reason there have been no new refineries built is because of the lack of sufficient profit to cover the outlay of significant capital to build them. Additional costs of enivronmental safeguards compared to the capital cost required to build are like drops of water in the ocean. If they keep capacity low, the oil companies can make more money without the huge investment. It is simple economics. Saudi Arabia has always been open to partnering with oil companies to build refineries in Saudi Arabia or the US. No oil companies have stepped forward. The free market system the GOP worships doesn't reward the companies for doing so.
I think Colbert dialed it way down when he realized how truly unintelligent she really is. Its like every time she opened her mouth he paused, turned it down a notch, and then proceeded, only to watch in horror as he realized he needed to dial it down again. He is probably the quickest man on TV, and luckily for her, and other guests, he seems to have a conscience.
The letters following this story are certainly rather telling. I do think Eric and Tyler are the same person, and he probably wrote some of the earlier ones as well. Blackpaw probably wrote his own, and I thunk that just because the level of writing and logic is much lower than the other troll.
I do wish Salon would restrict the ability to post letters to paying subscribers. I think the level of discourse would be higher. Plus, if trolls want to try and disrupt the place, make them pay for the opportunity.
I think the story certainly has insight into what happens when a pack of males gets together. Southern lynchings are an extreme example, but are certainly not much different from what went on at Duke. Alcohol and group mentality combined have caused problems throughout history.
I do think the author's life experience is rather limited to be commenting on life in general, however. While she was a cocktail waitress at one point, she also seems to have gone from sorority girl to grad student to housewife/mother. I owuld like to see stories from people who have been out in the world a little more.
Scalia thought he was funny! The glacier comment got a lot of applause. Colbert really slid into that routine, and then sliced everybody to shreds. It was too funny!
Was that Mare Winningham of St. Elmo's Fire in the audience?
If the MSM does not think Colbert was funny and many other people do, I guess the only solution is to run the entire routine and let the American people decide!
HAHAHAHA!!!! Now that is funny, even thinking the MSM would ever let that routine get broadcast! They do not have the courage that Colbert's left pinky finger has, which has less courage that his right pinky finger.
