@ Gary Kamiya, and the entire Salon audience

Please read Luangtom's comment and tell me this is a done deal.

I would like to know what the author of this article is smoking. Is Mr. Kamiya truly aware of what Barack Hussein Obama stands for? A proponent of One World Government, Mr. Obama sponsored the Global Poverty Act in the Senate. He agrees to taxes on the US-citizens for the sake of paying for UN-sanctioned programs. This is a step toward One World Government. And, ask Mr. Obama where his voting record stands on constitutional ideals. He voted in the negative on most issues pertaining to personal freedoms. In his stint as a legislator in Illinois his record is anti-Second Amendment and anti-personal freedoms. It is a record that he cannot deny. So, before the GOP should concede defeat, maybe the Democrats should be forthwith on where their candidate stands on personal freedoms and world order

Let's see: incoherent, libelous, downright silly, yet his beliefs are all still firmly entrenched and thus intact. And I'm pretty sure that Luangtom is not alone out there. In fact, I'm going to go out on a limb here and estimate that HALF THE GODDAMN COUNTRY still thinks like this.

So save the chicken-counting for early December, Gary. You're forgetting the lessons of 2000 and 2004. Never misunderestimate the ability of Democrats to hold the high ground (moral, political, or otherwise) and yet still lose an election.

WTF?

Fender:

liberals cannot stand that someone disagrees with them. If they could, they would close down Fox news and put conservatives in gulags. People who call themselves liberal are not really that. They are really totalitarians.

why do we like the right? has anyone but conservatives noticed the lack of rioting and looting in the midwest? the rains fall, bush does not appear to personally put people in boats, yet the people act calmly, kindly, and rationally. Because they are - white.

Nice.

So to recap: liberals are monolithic totalitarians who never show any sort of discord and march in lockstep, and enjoy putting people in Gitm--er, gulags.

And there were no riots during the flooding in the Midwest because the only people affected were white, and white people are fundamentally decent, as opposed to non-whites, who are akin to poorly-trained pets.

Yep. Ailes has done an outstanding job. I can't tell if it's more terrifying or amusing when an example of his handiwork comes stumbling out of the murk, all seven eyes aglow, belching swampgas and dripping glowing toxic waste everywhere.

@ Glenn

Glenn,

I don't doubt your claim for a minute, and I look forward to seeing the details when you release them.

But why are they doing this? What is Steny Hoyer's motive? Why would he publicly state one thing, and then turn around and contradict himself behind the scenes?

I'm dumbfounded, and ready to contribute.

Has this guy forgotten whose side he's on? Was he bought outright?

Oh, and let this be a lesson to any GOP wingnuts lurking in the shadows.

One big difference between the GOP and the Dems: we police our own.

This isn't bragging, this is just a statement of fact. The situation that Glenn points out should serve as evidence, that's all (right alongside holding Jay Rockefeller to task over FISA, etc).

It's good to try to hold our leaders accountable, you know? I have no idea how successful any of this will be, but let's watch how it plays out.

Because what's right for our country is bigger than what's right for OUR PARTY.

Jeebus.

They could just extend the PAA orders by 6-9 months and let Bush veto it (or the GOP filibuster), but they have no concern about any of these issues at all and want to sell these issues away out of fear that it might entail the slightest political cost.

That might be the single most cynical piece of politicking I've heard about from "our" side of the aisle in quite a while.

My jaw is hanging open.

You think the Larry Sinclair mud-slinging has the house Dem leadership rattled or something?

I, too, would like to see Chris Dodd speak on all this.

so...

Any reason why someone can't just rope him up, toss him in the trunk of a car, and drive his sorry crackhead ass back to Colorado? And maybe collect a reward in the process?

I think if you took a videocamera, this would make some good TV, too. :-D

@NotOrbitBoy

No one said Dems are perfect. Far from it, and I don't mean to imply that the left catches many of our own.

But at least we try. The free pass / blind eye thing sure does seem to go over well on the other side of the aisle lately, though.

Or does the right have their own version of GG that I'm not aware of out there, and he's busy trying to hold the GOP congressional leadership to task for FISA, etc?

@Stevio

Well, looks like we're on the same wavelength.

Is it elitist thinking...

...to say "bring on $5/gallon gasoline?" Or even $10/gallon?

By my way of thinking, yes, that will have a profound impact on the American way of life, and a substantial impact (in the short term) on the American economy.

But it will also serve as a major driver to move us from our deeply entrenched habits and inefficient and wasteful purchasing choices. The SUV's demise is already at hand (and not a moment too soon if you ask me!), many manufacturers are rushing to market with hybrids, plug-in hybrids, etc.

Then there are the consumer-oriented products like CFLs (and soon LEDs) for lighting, and there's increased research into wind, solar, and geothermal energy generation.

Given that the products of increased oil exploration will take as long (or longer) than simply bringing some of these new emerging technologies to market quickly, shouldn't the choice be obvious? Especially when you factor in the obvious consequences of drilling offshore and in ANWR?
