  • You're the boss of you

[Read the article: I think I'm addicted to quitting my job!]

Your resume looks like swiss cheese you say? Has someone gotten a copy of my resume again?

It could be boredom, ADD, restlessness, your perfectionist tendencies, your sensitivity or intolerance. Maybe you just want to try a little bit of everything, knowing life isn't very long.

In advertising for example, people move around a lot. Talent seems to be mobile and something that is spread around, rather than incorporated. Don't most people move around a lot now? Once upon a time, I worked for seven photographers, in different capacities, then clawed my way into editing and design.

At that time, I found a job recruiting, deciding that since I didn't have the patience or maturity to stick with any one thing at least I could help someone else find theirs. In any new career path, there was never a feeling of relief, like " This is it!", only a spreading sense of dissatisfaction.

Perhaps some people get so fed up that they become recruiters, career counselors and life coaches. It seems paradoxical. Who knows where your restlessness will lead you! There is usually something big behind the nagging restlessness. I say, go with it but don't jump without a clear picture of how deep the pool is. Is it a glittery illusion or a new opportunity for growth and a solid career move?

I like the idea of working for yourself. Rhetorical Q number nine hundred: How can you make that work, LW? Good luck! I hope you find what you are looking for.

  • Hobson's choice

[Read the article: Should I move back to Wisconsin because my mother has cancer?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

LW, I am sorry your Mom is so ill. It is terrifying when someone you love is suffering and there isn't much you can do. I wonder if your Mother would really want you to uproot, knowing how hard it is to feel settled in a place you like with a decent job and neighbors you like.

In your extended family, the threat of losing your Matriarch is larger than any plan, but is your move really going to help? You will know the right thing for your family. It will come to you and you will just know you've done the right thing. You have a lot going on if you have a child under 6 months, so be patient with yourself, be kind. Make sure you let your husband know how grateful you are that he is willing to move, because that is a selfless and loving gesture.

This must be so difficult, I cannot imagine what you are feeling right now. Know that you are not alone and that others are thinking of you.

  • Yes, look for a flex job

[Read the article: I'm doing stand-up and it's working. Should I quit my job?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I was just going to go on about finding a flexible job that allows the LW to pursuit her gift for comedy but, this covers it it simply and honestly:

"So if you are smart (Don't look at me! I had to learn from experience!) you will begin now to look for a new job."-CT

I am pasting this quote into almost every email I exchange with my siblings and artist friends. Even if it isn't the topic, I'll just sneak it in there. I'll let you know how that goes. Good luck LW and I hope I am fortunate enough to see you in action someday.

  • Imagine

[Read the article: Who won Super Tuesday?]

I hope Clinton and Obama end up being a team so I don't care who won. Guess I am one of those idealists who is at this point making the choice to step out of any debate between two people who could do amazing things for our country, together.

"You may say that I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one."

"Not all of us have the safety net of wealthy parents, a working spouse, or other such means of support, and not all of us have the luxury of being able to live in poverty. Some of us have children or elderly parents to support. Some of us need health insurance."

I know a lot of very talented (and tenacious) musicians, writers, actors, painters, dancers.... who could have written this part. They have other things going on in their lives besides their unquenchable desire to create and to share that creation. This is why is is important to support each other and to support the arts. It is the path less traveled to venture out on your own because you believe or because you can't help it.

Everyone is struggling, I don't know anyone who isn't in some way. There isn't any easy way to have a life and still follow your passion, but when it does work it is a beautiful thing. A very beautiful thing indeed.

  • In the mix

    Dear tb.

You, who posted anonymous and wrote this:

Short version- "everyone's obsession with all of this mixed-race stuff. All black people in this country are mixed. Hispanics are mixed. White people are mixed. WE'RE ALL MIXED. GET OVER THIS LIMITED LINE OF THINKING."

    Thank you.

I agree with your post and have lived in neighborhoods of every creed, race, culture and persuasion, everyone just living together. I like it best this way because it is reality. Damn right we can get along. I abhor these pundits and everyone who says otherwise. We are all sharing space on this planet, wanting basically the same things from life, so what's the big deal about the color of someone's skin? Or their gender? Or... OK, I'll stop here, but come on America, get over it! It is, as both Michelle Obama and HRC have said, "Silly".

Whew. That made me tired. I think I'll go back to watching mindless TV now and over to safe ground... Heather Havrilevsky's column maybe. Weeds. L Word. Something silly, and something that is still shocking, to some folks.
