His message is borne of his eloquence and serenity ... and so let us begin to do our part

The message of the election of Barack Obama as President Elect of the United Sates of America is clear ... people are not isolated from one another ... mankind is interconnected.

The sights and sounds of the celebrations of the 125,000 and of the millions of others across America and around the globe when Barack Obama was projected as winner of the election brought tears to the eyes of this observer and also to the eyes of his wife ... both of whom are white senior citizens in a foreign land who feel we have witnessed a profound turn in the history of humankind.

Our tears are but an expression of gratitude that hope is still alive in the hearts of humanity and that there is yet some promise with tomorrows sunrise.

This is no false 'Morning In America' ... this is rather a "Call to Work" ... Let us take a cue from Mr. Obama's pointed observation that it is everyones victory and what must be done becomes everyone's task to see through to a better tomorrow ... and with such leadership and temperment that he has thus far shown we can all begin to share in the decency of this victory by working jointly for a better future for ourselves ... and generations to come.

Words oft fail us - and in this case most certainly

To use a bushel basket of words to carry the point is indicative of lost communications and a lost position of any reasonable moral authority.

Those who fail to summarize, refute or defend an action or position within the content of a single paragraph are obfuscating for subliminal or subconscious reasons.

Deliberations on one’s actions and deeds require extensive thought and weighing of evidential material but the expression of the consequence or the morality of those same actions and deeds is an item that seldom needs a vast exposition.

Hence we have developed the custom of the wording in the courts …

"Guilty"

OR

"Not Guilty"

The law is an 'Ass' only in that it oft employs the most inept of interpreters who befoul the language, actions and thoughts of honest men (and women).

Original article: Wow! America is cool

These are good times to be an American even if the world economy is in the tank ...

"We are being admired by Swedes! We don't have to pretend we're Canadians. We elected Barack Obama!"

Yes Mr. Keillor even we Canadians are in admiration and you do not have to try 'borrow' our ID for getting into the foreign bars or clubs any longer.

The fact that you Americans have elected a thinking, compassionate and erudite leader beggars the imagination of many ... Why the true magnitude of the event is quite overwhelming not just in the comparison to the current pantheon of so called 'leaders' but also in the historical perspective.

Please handle him with care and nourish him with what support he deserves and requires in order to that he may mend this world for our future generations!

This needed to be said

While I was pleased with the very real issue Glenn spoke to it would have been nice if he could have included side comment on the recent episode of the shoe Iraqi shoe thrower who though he made for great sport in the mainstream media as 'visual slapstick' was unfortunately dismissed as a visual event. We noticed that not one major anchor (that we heard) made any honest open reference to what the man 'said' as he threw those shoes ... it was the truth he spoke about the very deep and vile evil deeds committed by the likes of Cheney & Bush that prompted what he did. Murder of the tens of thousands of innocents by men of no moral conscience who deftly deceived the electorate and damned themselves for their deeds.

There are murderers among us .... and they are known as the Bush Administration.

Original article: My year in politics

I would not want you as an acquaintance or as a neighbour Ms. Walsh

This article is a classic example of a narcissistic personality given media space. Little else ought be said or need be and so I wish Ms. Walsh well as she hopefully seeks some other employment that will spare me and others her editorial angst and lesser talent to put thoughts to written word.

Original article: The cheerful idiot

Brilliant writing can stir the natives - This is concise but brilliant burlesque

A most excellent ditty that puts a veritable 'frame' on the social/intellectual state of American society in this 'transitional' period - especially as it has drawn the melodious/odorous approbation/ire of multiple posters who either fail to see themselves or are like yourself Garrison, basking in the mad awareness of its turpitude ... Well done Mr. K!

It was a Dark and Stormy Night - Indeed!

I am taken aback when I stumble across such erudite musings by the master of woebegone who seems to best find his fettle in the darkest recesses of winters cold languish ... Which is all that much more lamentable when juxtaposed with the blithesomely light literature that is transferred to the big screen for mass consumption and awards mania such as we are currently in the season of.

We have taken a reading of your ‘Liberty’ with a grain of salt and are not inclined to reach for the nearest Winchester but rather to realize that common thread and sustaining beauty that “Runs through all and doth all Unite” is still good fodder for winters consumption.

Masterful pen/key strokes Mr. Keillor and also more than what was required for a weekly musing … have a good winter … Spring is not soon found at hand but we do have the words and promise of what ’Frost’ presents us with …

Oh, give us pleasure in the flowers to-day;

And give us not to think so far away

As the uncertain harvest; keep us here

All simply in the springing of the year.

Oh, give us pleasure in the orchard white,

Like nothing else by day, like ghosts by night;

And make us happy in the happy bees,

The swarm dilating round the perfect trees.

And make us happy in the darting bird

That suddenly above the bees is heard,

The meteor that thrusts in with needle bill,

And off a blossom in mid air stands still.

For this is love and nothing else is love,

The which it is reserved for God above

To sanctify to what far ends He will,

But which it only needs that we fulfill.

‘ Robert Frost’
