Absolutely right. That "ignorant of history = doomed to repeat it" phrase comes to mind.
It's the dark underbelly of the fresh, new, vigorous American spirit aspect, people end up reinventing the wheel. These types know so little about any actual history, so busy studying one religous tract, they end up ignorant of the dangers Europeans know all too well, and given an inch would drive us into the dark ages to find out first hand.
Please, please let us not let this happen.
Not enough people are doing what Juan Cole is doing here, simply saying wait, a religous extremist in this position? Are we seriously considering this?
Enough with the personality politics, time to wake people up to what insanity this is.
Good.
They blew it, just like the POW thing. Everyone lies, they just took it to such comic excess, as usual, that the idiots in media land actually noticed.
Late night punchline status is next, they've tagged themselves for good with this.
"This is why you exist."
I don't know where you've been for the past year, but "the worry stuff from Joan" is why Salon exists.
There are very few certainties in this life but that is definitely one of them. It's been demonstrated over and over and over and over. Right here.
to anything "progressive" or "non-right wing" or you know, "Democrat".
This right wing troll has been making a fool of herself for decades now and anyone progressive knows it and just sighs. And Salon pumps it out and collects ad revenue.
But now the stakes are high, and this dimwitted poser is praising not some washed up and never taken seriously anyway pop singer, but a dominionist who hopes the "end times" come and destroy us all so she can be wafted up to heaven speaking in tongues. And just might become President, yes President, not just Vice.
Enough already. No more apologizing for Salon because "well there's Greenwald". He's not enough to make up for all the damage done by the rest of this right wing bile, this zine is on balance now more supportive and helpful to the right wing status qou than anything like the opposite.
Right, "always been proud", which is a direct quote from Cindy McCain, in her well-known and equally absurd and juvenile smear response to a statement by Michelle Obama.
You see, this is whole point. Despite your right wing ranting, the point is that no one is trying to stop you from it. You can do it, Bill O'Rielly can do it, Rush Limbaugh can do it. And they all do. The airwaves and print waves are filled with the voices of the right, and all the while protesting about the "liberal media", which obviously keeps all of these right wing voices from getting a word in edgewise.
I don't have any problem with the extreme right wingers like you expressing your opinion. Most of the media is filled with nothing but. What I want is sites like Salon to stop pretending to be some sort of alternative to that, when to a large degree they just prop it up, with all the concern trolling and then this, praising this dangerous extremist as some sort of "feminist".
And if anyone wanted confirmation of to just what degree this is true, all it takes is a glance at all the extreme right wingers, the openly racist comments, the "always been proud" nicknames who fill these letters columns, drawn here by the hoards. Why, because it's a "progressive" site?
That's laughable. That's my point. I don't expect you to get it, but I had hoped that Salon would.
Oh and no, I don't think the rapture is coming, no matter how hard Sarah Palin prays for it.
That was sort of the whole point, genius.
to finally actually start fighting, not just standing back and complaining about this inadequate candidate we find ourselves saddled with and eyeing warily.
Your patting on the head comments about how Obama is "starting" to hit back a little and you "hope for more" were infuriating, but we get what we can get in this world.
A day late and a dollar short, the story of Salon in 2008. Or six months late, to be more precise. By the time the repulsive GOP tactics get you angry enough to FULLY engage against them and I mean leaving the concern about your own arch perceptions of Obama's inadequacy out of it, I predict it should be around January.
Here's a succint message I wish you and everyone here would read. The site it happens to be on has little to do with why I suggest it, it's just the most hard hitting and concise opinion about this subject I've read.
