President Black America
Or something like that.
"Or something like that" was a nice touch. Yeah, substitute any of the slurs from half-wit racists like you, they're all pretty much interchangeable. Clever.
There's a simple formula that helps keep it straight. I find it clears things up nicely.
The right-leaning GOP-skewed news machine (the one that's functioned as little more than a propaganda outlet) says:
Barack Obama can't win because:
People won't vote for him because he's black
He's too scary because (a preacher at his church once said A,
someone he met once said B, someone his real estate agent also sold
a house to did C, ad finitim and multiple choiceum)
He's plunging in the polls see see we told you
He has zero experience because eight years as a Senator then
two as US Senator and ten as a constitutional law professor don't
count because that was all before we heard of him
Did we mention that no one will vote for him because he's black
That preacher is scary and black also
The party is terribly divided despite the evidence that it's
not.
Okay. Now:
Salon.com, on the other hand adds "I'm concerned that..." before printing all those statements. Which makes it TOTALLY different!
Thank god we have "alternative" media.
A coordinated effort today from William Kristol and other far right pundits and then an ad attack ad directly from the McCain campaign all came out today, along these lines:
"Why wasn't Hillary Clinton chosen as VP? She was owed it after coming in second in the nomination race"
Putting aside the wildly coincidental aspect of this onslaught, it's also interesting how much it sounds exactly like so many of the supposed "PUMAs" who heavily populate Salon.
Many of us have long suspected that a considerable percentage of these were really just Republicans pretending to be outraged supporters, and this spooky similarity between the messages they put here and the many coming out today from this coordinated Rove attack seem to lead in that direction at least to some degree. To a lot of degree actually.
Hillary Clinton does deserve something: A tremendous amount of respect for NOT pushing this meme and for fighting back against it as hard as she has. Let's hope she can continue to find ways to do so at the convention. I wish some of her more extreme "supporters" would follow her lead, but they seem to know better than her what this country needs.
Or else they're just pretending.
By the way, in case this needs debunking: Not since the days of Jefferson and Aaron Burr does the runner-up traditionally by obligation get the VP slot. Especially not the primary runner up.
If William Kristol is living in the year 1800 that shouldn't really surprise anyone, but I hope Democrats can be more ...what's that word? Ah yes... progressive.
A coordinated effort this weekend brought out William Kristol columns, a McCain campaign ad, and many others all saying "Hillary Clinton was OWED..." to try and sabatoge the Democratic Party. There was no pretense about it, they just got their talking points and spoke as if with one slimy repulsive manipulative voice.
The major media picked it up and stoked the flames of "Dissent! A party divided! PUMAs!" non-stop, despite evidence that almost all of this is complete nonsense. Polls report things like "Of those still Clinton supporters, a full 28% say they might not vote for..." So, uhm, right anyone reporting being "still a Clinton supporter" would say that, yes. So ALL of them should be saying they won't vote for Obama, so the fact that only 28% are... Meanwhile the media picks up on 28%!!!! Look out!! And runs with it.
Salon, of course, is right there.
It's like some dark parody of one of those historical documentaries: When sleaze was thrown, Salon was there. Every time. Gullible and played like a cheap banjo to the last.
stupid distraction from what?
Glance at the front page right now. The right wing, the GOP, the official McCain campaign, and William Kristol want you to think not about the incredible thing happening in Denver, but about "PUMAS", a mostly meaningless and peripheral issue that the right loves to milk to create false dissent in the ranks.
Oh wait. I meant the right wing, the GOP, McCain campaign.... and Salon.com
You distract, Salon will run with it. For days. Weeks. Months. The letters column will fill with letters, and so on.
Meanwhile elsewhere, the rest of the world moves on.
Tom Tomorrow gets it, oddly enough the publication he's printed in doesn't.
with talk of that incredible opening night. Some are complaining how the sensationalist right wing corporate media wants to look for "PUMA" stories and other cheap shot false controversy to stir up BS rather than cover this historic event. They seem sort of unnerved that this isn't what's actually happening.
Waltz over to Salon, and the screaming headline is about...
PUMAS.
Of course it is.
a day late and a dollar short, as usual lately, but good nonetheless.
And notice that this one only gets about 12 letters while the sensationalist egging everyone to fight article got almost a 100 so far.
And also notice that the 12 are, at least so far, mostly the same bitter, right wing, racists, and everything in between downplaying anything positive about this incredible speech, and incredible historic evening.
Hey they're out there, progressive blogs like Daily Kos get more comments in about five minutes than you could dream of in an evening. You've just lost that crowd. Except for a few who stick around here as scolds.
dilligently with its ear to the ground listening for "what the Republicans might say"
Thank god for your public service offering an alternative to the right wing corporate media. Yes you repeat everything the other brain dead pundits say, but you add "I'm concerned that.." in front of it! Totally different! Alternative!
You really should just change the name of this site to ConcernTroll.com
