Hmm...

I love anti technology people who post on internet chat boards. Your tears nourish me. Digitally, of course.

The only thing that concerns me about these new forms of communication is that a lot of people don't have a sense of what medium is appropriate for whatever kind of conversation. My friends get into heated arguments with people in text. When communication has broken down to the point of argument it would seem people should demand at least a phone conversation. Instead they further damage their relationship via texting 160 characters at a time.

I love texting, but I only use it for communicating factual information or fun, light messages. I wouldn't dream of telling someone that he is a manipulative liar and a jerk with a text. :/

Original article: The Internet ate my nephew!

Grow out of it? Good luck.

My nephew is 26 years old, and he has yet to outgrown these conspiracy sites. Some people are just bent up and crazy like that. I'm not sure there is anything you can do about it. They can teach him how reason in college, but if he can't even get through admissions I'm not sure what you can do...

Original article: Is the opt-out a cop-out?

Note where you are from.

Here's an idea. Everyone should state where they are posting from before they give an opinion. I'm fairly certain that the those of you who are saying this "opt out" is a great compromise are sitting snug in a blue state.

Do you know how many millions of progressives actually live in the south? Just because we are out numbered doesn't mean we don't exist. The fact of the matter is not everyone can uproot and live in a blue state. Do you blue state folks have millions of great jobs for us to take over? Maybe you'll give me your job.

Do you people realize you are literally condemning some of us to terrible suffering and even death when you say "Why yes, we need to get this done so by all means cut out the red states"?

I didn't vote for these jerks "representing" me up there.

My best friend needs a kidney

My best friend of 15 years needs another kidney. She had a kidney for 8 years before it failed. She has been waiting on dialysis for about 5 years now.

I looked into donating. What I learned made me unable to consider donation. If I ever run into complications later on down the road no one will take care of me. The donor's insurance only covers immediate expenses. And given that insurance companies consider donation a "pre-existing condition" I am not just risking death on the operating table, I am risking a life time of being uninsurable. Getting hurt or sick through no fault of my own is one thing. But actively seeking to put myself in a category that puts myself and my family at a serious disadvantage is another thing altogether.

My friend understands and agrees. I don't know how I will feel if she dies waiting. I feel guilty thinking about it, but it simply isn't a risk I can take. This is a terrible medical system. There simply has to be a better way!
