Original article: America's regression

@brooklyn13

It is NOT acceptable to use composite photography to embellish your article.

Yes it is so long as it's identified as a composite.

Which it is.

@Reader

If KSM ever steps foot on U.S. soil, and someone kills him, it would be no different than the brave people who stormed the cockpit in the flight over Pennsylvania and brought down that plane.

By god, you're dim. TheFlight 93 people were trying to save their own lives or the lives of others. KSM is in custody and can't kill anybody.

Do you not understand the difference?

If, hypothetically, the circumstances of life afforded you with a loaded gun and a clear shot, you would kill him, wouldn't you? I certainly would.

Anybody else you want to kill? How about a robber caught on a security cam? That's open and shut, isn't it? No trial for him! Just take him out back and put a bullet through his brain.

Christ, you pants-pissers are pathetic.

@skeptonomist

Were any war crimes trials ever held in Germany, by Germans?

Lots o' them.

In fact, John Demjanjuk is going on trial in Germany soon.

Oh Good Lord

Kind of like waking up to a smoldering skyscraper with a jet jammed into the side of it.

Yes, HCR is just like that.

Jackass.

Fail

Is this an experiment in "throw everything in blender and see what comes out"?

Many a year ago when JW was named head honcho I predicted she'd wreck the place.

I take no joy in being right.

Original article: Obama's Nobel Peace Prize

"That's what makes this Prize so painfully and self-evidently ludicrous."

I'd reserve that for Hank Kissinger being awarded the thing but Obama getting it is, shall we say, premature.

On the other hand, it's always fun watching wingnut heads explode.

@Tommy777

You've apparently gone quiet over these issues.

You might want to take a dip into the archives before you start tossing around smug accusations, sport.

Didn't you a moment ago warn against "generalising from a sample of one"?

Heh

The market would force consumers to act in accordance with their own--rather than the government's--risk assessment.

This is a good point. You take some pills or inject yourself and if you die your "risk assessment" will be not to do that again.

It's so simple, it's brilliant!

JC Miller sez:

I am quite impressed with New President’s long game, not to mention his smile. In case any of you haters do not know, he just happens to be an intellectual and a constitutional scholar, as widely reported.

Well, by gum, that settles it!

Eleventy-dimensional chess will be our salvation yet!

@mjkoch

Gerald Ford sacrificed his re-election by pardoning Nixon and sparing the country the unnecessary trauma of impeachment - and he was 100% correct.

Nixon resigned before both impeachment and the pardon. So it was Nixon, not Ford, who "spared the country."

And by "sparing the country" I assume you mean that those at the highest levels of government are not beholden to the law. Neat.

@powermom

Americans are not stupid, they have read the health care bill.

Which bill? All of them? Americans have read every page of the several bills?

@bernbart

Has anyone ever considered this was a strategy to get everyone off their duffs and out to support a public option?

37-dimension chess!

Obama's so brilliant are puny minds will never understand what he does!

---

More seriously, the muddled messages, the refusal to twist arms, and the lack of leadership on Obama's part have turned this into a clusterfuck regardless of what, if anything, passes.

@J. Reb McRedneck

They've adopted a page out of the Bush/Rove playbook...

No matter how outlandish a lie might be, if one repeats it often enough (and with enough gumption and vigor), it becomes the truth.

Actually, it's out of the Hitler/Goebbels playbook.

Kudos!

You wrote a great many sentences and I'm not sure that even one of them has any basis in fact.

That takes talent, m'boy!

@Old Poor Richard

In 1886 the Supreme Court was packed with "left wingers"? You might want to do a little research.

That said, Santa Clara County v. Southern Pacific Railroad is easily the most destructive Supreme Court decision that we still have to live with.

I estimate the chances of that decision being overturned (judicially or legislatively) as ranging between zero and nil.

@Soliel

making private health care "illegal"

Huh? Nobody has proposed that. Not even the Socialist Hellholes you conservatives are so terrified of do that.

.

Monday, July 20, 2009 09:54 AM

@Mike LeP

Why is this so urgent?

Indeed. It was only in late 1945 that Harry S Truman first proposed national healthcare.

We can wait another 64 years.
