Not exactly, Glenn
[Read the article: The GOP is the party of the Iraq war]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The GOP is still the party of the war, yes. However, the GOP base, whose poll numbers you cite, shrunk immensely after the election last November. Those still identifying themselves as Republicans and supporting the war represent the most extreme fringe of the GOP, as you've pointed out in other posts. I guess my point is that citing percentages is a bit misleading since the base of the GOP is much smaller and many Republicans left the party in disgust, concentrating the warmongers into what remains of the base of the GOP. Ron Paul made that point about the base of the GOP during the South Carolina (i think) debate in response to a question along the lines of "You're a republican, yet you're against the war...why are you here again?" I think the point Paul made in response is relevant to this discussion.
This is my first letter to you, though I've been reading your blog since you started out. I have one request: Can you explain why Ron Paul is wrong, or why you would not vote for him? What he's saying is just about the most refreshing thing I've heard in politics since I became interested about 6 years ago, and I think that, right or wrong, he should be critically analyzed without consideration to what chances the Old Media and the pundits claim he has of getting the nomination.
