Shine It On
[Read the article: "Ridiculous," "out of control" and just plain "goofy"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yes, that's how I remember it, from the early '70's. If someone acted like a jerk or something happened that wasn't worth getting bothered about, we'd just "shine it on". I'd forgotten about that.

I Think Yoko is Great
[Read the article: Ono? Oh, yes!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I don't think she went after John for his fame at all, but that she was one of the few people on the planet who were able to connect with him on the same intellectual and creative plane. So her voice quality isn't great -- Dylan's isn't, either. She is a conceptual artist, and John fell for her because he appreciated what she was doing creatively. Whether or not you like what she does artistically, I think that she should be respected as John Lennon's choice of partner. If you think he's great (I myself think he was the creative genius of the century), then it's an insult to him to think he would pick someone who was just interested in his fame. Also, remember that we don't really know them or their relationship at all. Have a little respect. Jeesh.

I'll Never Use Blockbuster Again
[Read the article: Why Blockbuster is gaining on Netflix]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]For me it's both personal and political. While I don't have any illusions that Netflix is a small business, compared to Blockbuster, and especially considering the latter's supposed "family values" bent, I guess it is. More personally, though, several years ago I had an experience with Blockbuster that made me swear I would never give them another penny of my money no matter what. I had a movie out that was due at noon. I meant to take an early lunch from work so I could return it in time, but got slammed unexpectedly so didn't get to Blockbuster until 12:10. The punk behind the counter refused to take my sob story into account, in spite of the fact that I'd been a loyal customer for years, and insisted on charging me the late fee for the 10 minute lapse. I requested to speak with someone who had the authority to waive the fee, and he said that he did have the authority but he just wouldn't do it. I threw the video on the counter, walked out, and never looked back. I have been a member of Netflix for about 6 years, I think, and have never had any problems. 'Nuff said.

Nice To See an Article About breakfast Cereal
[Read the article: The Breakfast Liberation Front]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Because I, for one, can only take so much of reading about Iraq and presidential campaigning and the criminals in the White House (though I do appreciate Salon for the coverage). But back to breakfast cereals, one glaring omission is that the author lumps them all together, as if Kashi Go Lean were on a par with Cocoa Pebbles. There are many cold cereals out there that are minimally processed and made from whole grains, and which are quite healthful. There is also the advantage that I can pour them into a bowl at work and pour some milk on them and actually eat breakfast. To say I am not a morning person is putting it mildly, and I can't eat until my stomach and I wake up, so I usually eat after I've been at work for an hour or so. Whipping out a frying pan and cooking up some eggs or hot cereal is not really an option at that point, so whole grain cold cereal with some fruit seems like a sensible and tasty option. The article would have been better if the author had at least made some mention of more healthful cereal options.

Have any of you seen this?
[Read the article: Hey, Obama boys: Back off already!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]OK, I'll admit that I haven't yet read all of the comments here, so maybe someone has already mentioned this, but just in case no one has... The other day I was looking for a T-shirt on the Cafe Press (liberal/left oriented) website, and was horrified to see that they had a number of Obama T-shirts with the saying "Bro's, not Ho's". I could not believe it. Being a strong feminist since 1970 or so -- actually earlier, since the '60's when I wasn't allowed to join Little League but my brother was, and I was better than him. This might seem like a digression, but I resent some younger women's lack of appreciation for how far things have really come, in some ways, yet when I see something like this, I have to wonder. Hillary was not my first choice as a candidate, much to my disappointment because I really wanted to get behind a woman candidate, but I just think she is too ruthless and "corparatist". I was originally for Edwards, but chose Obama in the caucus, not because I'm starry eyed about him but because I liked him than Clinton. When I see sh*t like this "Bro's not Ho's" T-shirt, though, I just want to crawl under a rock and stay there. I wonder how many they've sold.

Clinically Depressed
[Read the article: Why I hate summer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm surprised no one has mentioned it, but it seems to me that the writer might benefit from an antidepressant and a good therapist.
