Hotter Buttons

I get to vote for Wilson or Madrid in a few months.

The wierd thing is that Madrid is the first credible candidate Wilson has ever faced. For example, last time the democrats put up a guy, Richard Romero, who's claim to fame is being a public school administrator. Our schools suck. We'd have rather voted for a child molester because the molestor only wrecks one kid at a time.

The democrat base here in ABQ always votes against Wilson and thereby make the race semi-close. They show up and vote predictably every year. Madrid needs to court the disenfranchized conservatives. We're no longer served by the republican party.

I'd love to vote for Madrid, but am worried that she will be just another democrat mouthpiece. I'll take a republican mouthpiece over a democrat one every time.

Madrid can win my vote, and a horde of other votes, by coming out in clear support of the individual right to bear arms. Us NM conservatives love hunting more than we hate Bush. We really really hate Bush.

On the other hand, if Wilson says "Impeach Bush" then Madrid doesn't have a prayer of winning.

Original article: Bikers, they ain't no good

sigh

Once again, the old argument that bad behavior should be encouraged if it makes people think about being good.

That isn't thinking, it's herd following. That's why we get faith based environmentalism.

At least leonard's snippy little punditry at article's end has some acuracy for a change. The best thing a person can do for the environment is to decrease the population. Oddly, the implication is that no one has ever been greener the joe stalin.

from the money side ...

I've used to be in that relationship! Except I was the one with money.

Don't try to pay your half, it leads to problems. Mature people understand that some people bring cash to a relationship and others don't. Big deal. You bring something to the relationship that is important to your rich boyfriend. My ex brought love and acceptance. Those are rare things these days.

Since you don't come from money, you probably aren't familiar with the pleasure of spoiling your sweetie. Note: spoiling women is far funner than spoiling girls because women don't have the expectation.

Long term commitment? How can you even consider it with this man? He wants to go to Japan with you, knows your finances, and doesn't offer to pay? If he's so mature, why isn't he offering at least airfare and lodging.

If he has offered to pay a bunch of your costs for the trip, then there's something to work with. Enjoy your vacation and don't even think about paying your half. Let him enjoy pampering you while you enjoy being pampered.

If he hasn't offered to pay, throw that boy back in the pond. Maybe he'll grow up. Go catch yourself a man.

Original article: Watching Beirut die

Quite good - except

Beautifuly written.

However, at the very end it says the USS Cole is a battleship. Not so. I'm pretty sure it's a destroyer. It only looks big when it isn't near an actual capital ship.

Kinda sad. It casts doubt on the rest. I can't tell if it is wonderful article or a wonderful story.

Original article: Scarborough's fair

Finally some clarity

Nice to see a article noticing the difference between conservatives and bush loyalists. The republican party is ruled by christian fundamentalists and bush loyalists. Neither group is conservative. Many of us conservatives are more disgusted by the republicans than by the democrats.

Something most folks forget was hinted at in the article with regard to domestic spying and general erosion to civil liberties. Clinton had a worse civil liberties record than Reagan. Flame on.

Original article: Killing time

more fear mongering

From the right we hear about deady threats over there. Now, from the left we hear about deadly threats right here. Must be election time. Let's get our fear on.

The article had value in that it prompted vastly more insightful people to respond with letters.

One thing I haven't seen in a letter yet is the militarization of the police. As our troops overseas are learning and proving: soldiers make bad cops and cops make bad soldiers. The jobs are too different.

Another thing is "it's the economy stupid". When the low skilled jobs go overseas, low skilled people find other low skilled activities. For example, Matthews started writing, which in his hands is low skilled.

Original article: Enviros heart Lieberman

Finally Green

As a preface, joe leiberman disgusts me and I'd love to see him gone. That is my view of the whole person, not based on single issues.

The enviros, however, are pretty single issue. It's about time they act like it. The democrats are pissed because they feel entitled to the enviro vote. Too bad.

The greens have never been a credible party because they've acted as a holding pen for lunatic fringe democrats. That's a winning strategy for those wanting to make noise, but a losing one for those wanting to form a credible political party. A political party has to actually stand for something. The republicans stand for something (something foul - GWB). The democrats stand for little except being not republican.

A lot of conservatives are conservationists. We don't see environmentalism as progressive, but as conservative. If the greens actually supported environmentalism instead of pandering to the liberal fringe they could become a real political party - like in europe.
