Original article: The fight for fair pay

Pelosi?

"...let's drop all the congresswomen's $169,300 salaries by 23%. That should be a huge hit to Pelosi who makes $212,000...for doing nothing. And this proves it"

I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Pelosi's the Speaker of the House, where the bill passed.

Re: Going to HR and asking what my male peers make.. riiiight. I don't want my employer to perceive me as a threat. Sure, as a matter of principle I should make sure they know I will sue them for discrimination if they are paying me unfairly. But Catch 22: as someone living check to check with not enough income, and in a recession, I'm not going to rattle my employer. Even if I know I'm being discriminated against, it's better than no paycheck at all.

The survey is biased; It's not 75 % of women

It's 75% of women who went to a women's fitness magazine website and volunteered to take a survey about what they eat. So there is a self-selection bias (why would I bother filling out a survey about what I eat unless I was concerned about it in the first place?), and on top of that is a bias towards women with body image or weight problems (because they were already at a magazine to help them get in shape).

SELF does encourage healthy eating and exercise habits, and I've seen issues about how anorexia is bad, mmkay, but I always assumed that part of the reason they have this kind of outreach is because they know that a large portion of their demographic has already got eating/dieting/body image problems.

lol

I'm going to take the time to post a comment on some blog entry I didn't think was worth reading! Take that, world! ^_^

jk I thought it was fun fluff.. but probably because I was being pandered to! Whatever that is supposed to mean.. *looks up pandering in the dictionary* ... "catering to or profiting from the weaknesses or vices of others"

Sweet. Thanks for catering to my weakness... for uh ... reading Broadsheet, I guess?

Full Knowledge

If ultrasounds or videos of abortions are shown in order to give someone full knowledge of what they're doing, then I think in all fairness they should be made aware of what they would be doing if they choose to keep the fetus, and be required to watch equally graphic videos of a woman going through childbirth. Also, in regards to the people who mentioned abortion videos should be watched by those who support the right to abortion, to be accurate we would need to watch videos of abortions at various stages of pregnancy development, be supplied with percentages of abortions occurring at that stage and the reasons, and also be required to watch videos of childbirth at various levels of complication, up to and including maternal death in a modern hospital setting, along with the percentages for those occurrences.

rapists should be executed

"If she had been telling the truth, and he had killed an actual rapist, it's still wrong."

I do not believe that to be true, and Texas is one of those states where a majority of the people also do not believe that to be true.

me

My fiance is going to take my name. I didn't anticipate a problem, but after reading this I guess I should do some research .. I'd rather just get married in another state than have to sue Georgia, if it would have to come to that. :P

"lushly proportioned"

I just wanted to point out that the Bratz dolls don't have unrealistic boobie-waist-hip ratios and are actually flat-chested. :)
