Take Hugh Greentree

...and reverse his name: it becomes Small Deadbush. Isn't that funny?

In any case, Camille and facts still seem to have a hard time getting in touch. There were certainly no facts in anything Hugh Greenbush had to say. Far from being somehow 'driven further to the right' by 'liberal hatred,' Bush in fact took a hard right turn the minute he got into office. He governed like he had a fifty state mandate and not a narrow and highly disputed victory.

And Democrats for the most part went along with him; they went along with his massive tax breaks for the rich. They went along with his 'no child left behind' program. They went along with his invasion of Iraq. And in turn Bush and Republicans branded Democrats as traitors in the election of 2002. Remember the morphing of Max Cleland into Osama bin Laden?

How could Democrats or liberals have pushed Bush 'further to the right' if Democrats and liberals never really stood up to him until maybe the last year or so?

Furthermore, as far as I know, Bush has never changed his mind on anything; yet another reason to doubt that the nasty liberals somehow pushed the poor man into the arms of the right wing.

But I highly doubt Camille will pay any atention to anything I might have to say, simply because I just don't have the sort of cute phoney authentic 'persona' she seems to get off on. Maybe if I pretended to be a some small town cowboy with a hillbilly accent or some damned thing she might think I had something to say. Unfortunately I happen to be a person, not a cartoon, so I doubt I'll ever be able to convince her of anything.

Ok, this time with a persona....

Dear Ms. Camille: why, I think you are such a purty purty thing and I do believe I could eat you up like a buttercup!

Now I was just reading your article here and I was just wondering what in the world those liberals and Democrats ever did to Mr. Bush to push him all the way over to the right side of the road like that, like your friend Mr. Big Greenwood says they did. Now I hope you don't get mad at me for saying this! But I can't say that I rightly recall the Democrats or liberals ever doing much of anything to Mr. Bush, at least not right at the beginning. So I don't see how they could have pushed him to go anywhere!

Seems to me in fact they did a lot for him! They voted for his war, didn't they? And they let his tax breaks go through, didn't they? Isn't that so? And what's more, I seem to recall the Democrats had the majority in the Senate at that time, but they still let Mr. Bush do pretty much anything he wanted to do. And that was after they weren't even sure he won the election fair and square!

Now, Mam, that's just what I remember--I'm just a small town boy and I could be wrong, I guess. Maybe I misread all the papers when I was reading them! But if I am right, well, then, it just don't seem quite logical to me that someone could claim that the Democrats made Mr. Bush into some kind of nutty right winger just by hating on him. And so I just keep thinking that maybe somebody made this whole thing up! Do you think that's possible? I surely hope it's not.

Now, if I am wrong about any of this, I'm sure you can show me exactly where I've gone wrong! If you have some other facts that I don't know about, I would be really interested in seeing you line them up for me. Thank you kindly in advance.

Well, it was sure nice talking to you! I have to get back to the spring plowing now. Yes, we start the plowing at 3:30 in the morning hereabouts and we don't stop until the river don't rise. I know you will be mighty glad to have finally heard from such a true and authentic American voice such as myself. I'm guessing you might be tired of just hearing from Australians and right wingers in think tanks all the time. Well I hope you enjoyed this, I know I sure did!

I worry

...that in 30 years the political historians will come along and say Bush was worse than we thought. In fact, I almost feel certain of it. If anybody can do it, Bush can.

And this, kids,

...is why nobody gives a shit about the hippies anymore. This is a tale of abuse and greed and heartlessness, not of magic.

How can anyone just live a life of lies/self deception like that is just beyond me.
