...but they can get over it.
Britan got over it. Germany got over it. France may be about to get over it.
Even India and Pakistan got over it, and those countries aren't known for stellar records on women's rights.
Women governors and senators aren't something to even mention anymore, even in conservative states. If Hillary runs a good campaign, she can win. And if she loses, she won't set women back, no matter what the hysterics like to say.
...instead of a Democrat, you may as well have just voted for the Republican. Because that's the only result you will have achieved.
It's a political fact of life that every vote the Democrats lose is a gain for the Republicans.
...they might very well wish to dump Bush and Cheney and replace them with some nice up and coming Republicans. But they'll have to get it past the Democrats now. And politically, the Democrats have no reason to want Bush and Cheney to leave. Certainly none of the Democratic candidates for president (and they are many) would want to give the Republicans a 'do-over' in the presidency. For their own purposes, they would want Bush and Cheney to be in office on election day, November 2008.
If the Republicans really wish to dump Bush and Cheney, they are probably going to have to accept Nancy Pelosi as president. However, that move might also be blocked by the Democratic presidental candidates, most particularly the junior Senator from NY.
Hence it looks to me like the Republicans are just going to be stuck with B&C for the next two years. And nobody will cry more about it than they will.
The other possibility is that B&C might pull a fast one and resign.
...why is she supposed to campaign for her opponent? She's supposed to campaign for herself, not Obama.
And conversely she has nothing to gain by attacking Obama's supposed lack of qualifications. It's up to the voters to decide if he's qualified, not his opponents.
Mudslinging at this point would just be damaging to both of them and to the Democrats and Hillary is smart to avoid it.
She's also smart not to attack a potential running mate--or the one who might choose her as a running mate.
But of course getting the mudslinging going is exactly what the media wants.
...that Bush and Cheney might pull a fast one and resign is that President Pelosi would then be saddled with the war. She would have to either pull out or stay in. If she pulled out, the Republicans could run in 2008 on the basis that the mean, partisan Democrats pushed Bush out and thus 'lost the war.' If she didn't immediately pull out (and in two years time, she might not have the time or opportunity to pull out), the country might turn against the Democrats.
Fiendish, eh? But in fact I really have no idea what these guys will do, and never really did. It seems they almost always opt to do the dumbest things, and I'm not dumb enough to predict what that might be.
...that takes balls; sexism is when people never say that takes breasts.

However, this story is so far over the top that it might just turn out to be a favor to him. They are talking about when he was five to eight years old! This is the kind of story that can have a boomerang effect against the tale tellers. In fact, I think it really creates a great opportunity for Obama to explain who he is and what his background is.
