we are responsible for what our country does. It doesn't matter which side of the war question you were on. I was against the war as well. You and I are part of the United States and we share responsibility for what the United States does.
If this country were to be punished in some way for the war, we'd be punished along with everyone else. Germany was punished for Hitler's crimes and Germany wasn't even a democracy.
As long as we say that the war is all George Bush's fault, we'll never stop the war. If we really do want to stop the war, the 60 or 70 percent of us who oppose the war need to step up and take responsibility for our country. Otherwise the 30 percenters will be allowed to keep on running the country.
..or anything like that.
They volunteered to serve their country. It was our choice to send them to Iraq. We, this country, did that--not just George Bush. And if they're going to stay there, that's our choice and responsiblity as well.
Just because someone volunteered to serve in the military doesn't get George Bush or any of us off the hook. We're responsible for what happens to them. If they die or are wounded, we're fully as responsible as if they had been drafted.
And at this point, as a nation we're guilty of abusing their service. There's no plan to win, only a plan to blame the Democrats for defeat. There's no war for freedom, only a war to keep George Bush from looking like the loser he is.
Oh, the Devil wears a hypocrite's shoe
The Devil wears a hypocrite's shoe
The Devil wears a hypocrite's shoe
And if you don't watch out he'll slip it on you
--Carter Family, "There's No Hiding Place Down Here."
The Republicans who started this war and couldn't finish it are now trying to slip the hypocrite's shoe on the Democrats. Hopefully the Republicans will find out there really is no hiding place down here.
Isn't he planning on losing in Iraq and putting the blame on Democrats?
...they can call for blood sweat and tears by calling for volunteers to enlist. But they won't do it.
To 'win' in Iraq, we need soldiers on the ground, as many soldiers as we can get. And the war needs support from the public. A massive outpouring of volunteers would solve both problems. But they won't do it, because they know they won't get any number of volunteers. Even war supporters won't volunteer for the war.
Far from being Churchillian, they're simply being cowards. And their supporters are cowards. Far from being determined to win the war or avoid losing, they are in fact planning on losing, and on blaming Democrats for the loss.
They need to be called out on this. The president should be asked why he isn't calling for volunteers. Dick Cheney should be asked why he isn't calling for volunteers. Rush Limbaugh should be asked why he isn't calling for volunteers. If they really want to win the war, that's the way to do it--get as many volunteers for the war as they can. But they aren't doing it.
...yet it is a great moral advance when the guilty have far more to fear from war than the innocent.
Many more innocent have died in Iraq than the guility.
Noticeable then and noticeable now is how the justification for the invasion of Iraq is somehow connected to the war on terror, but the explicit justification is never actually made. I bet they thought they were being smart when they did this: now they just look stupid.
Also the talk about 'freedom' is just so much empty horseshit. Tyrants don't fear freedom, they fear justice. And justice is for everyone, not just criminals. Justice is fair treatment, and fair treatment is exactly how we haven't been treating the Iraqis. Liberty is nothing without justice.
