  • Nancy Walls

[Read the article: "I want to thank Jack Abramoff..."]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

When she and Steve Carrell were both on The Daily Show, Nancy Walls was great. I'd like to think she actually did write that speech!

When did this column turn into a discussion of Anonymous's unhappy life?

Whether you're a woman or a man, twisting yourself into some received idea of what the stereotypical member of the opposite sex supposedly demands--whether or not you got results--seems like a recipe for nothing but bitterness. Anonymous unhappily seems like an excellent illustration of that.

Thank god the world is full of actual men and women with their own minds who aren't just there to be stereotypes. If they're not all pretending to be things they aren't, individual men and women actually have the chance to find out they like each other! And who wants to spend their life with someone who doesn't like them?

  • No "caramel"

[Read the article: They just don't click]

Sarah does deserve a prize, as well as thanks for the web link.

SCOTCH 100% Pure Essence of Chicken

It is a 100% pure essence of chicken which helps strengthen body functions. It is 100% pure because it contains no coloring, additives, or even “caramel”.

I'm not sure how a chicken-derived dietary supplement helps a guy stop mistaking his wife for a computer (it looks like he needs a visit from Oliver Sacks instead), but anyway.

  • Chicken!

[Read the article: They just don't click]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Why is there continued speculation when Sarah nailed it in the very first comment?

Check out her link. There it is. Same product pictured in the ad. (The "pure", no additives or coloring version--they have other wonderful chicken-essence-in-a-jar products for you!)

  • On keeping America

[Read the article: Feinstein: I'll back the filibuster after all]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Feinstein is my senator as well, and while she frequently frustrates me, this changed decision is extremely welcome. As the earlier reader said, if this country is about anything, it's about not having a king. Alito's enthusiasm for the unitary executive points to a Court legacy we cannot afford.

  • Even if you grant the premises of the article

[Read the article: Bats trade gray matter for larger testes]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Wouldn't an equally apt headline have been "Bats trade larger testes for gray matter"?

  • Shouldn't this be explosive?

[Read the article: As Bush seeks more cash for Iraq, a memo sheds light on how he got there]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Leaving aside the public dissimulations, which everyone is used to by now.

This says President Bush told Mr. Blair he wanted to send U.S. pilots specifically and deliberately to be shot at in order to justify his war.

Is it just me? Isn't that, well, outrageous?

  • A regulation basketball hoop is 18 inches in diameter

    [Read the article: Hoop dream]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I dunno, I'd have to measure a tiny woman to decide if this was plausible.

  • one thing anyway

[Read the article: Jon Stewart, John McCain and "Bullshit Town"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Given that global warming is, as Bill Maher said recently (one of the things I agree with him on), by far the biggest problem we face, it is at least nice to have one Republican who believes in it.

  • learning your Moutons

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Wednesday my heart was in my throat as I waited to see if Derrick Turnbow would successfully save the win for my setup guy, Matt Wise. Oh joy!: a scary save, but I got the W.

And I hardly ever used to watch any baseball game that didn't have the Cubs in it.

On the other hand, today I found out Eric Gagne will spend months on the DL without having thrown a pitch. Yeah, I paid for a part-season closer, but a possible no-season closer--

Maybe fantasy does suck after all.

Still, it was fun a couple of years ago when I pulled through to beat a dozen boys. And it gets me to watch games on my MLB package I'd never watch otherwise, listen to good announcers like the Milwaukee crew, and generally spend a lot more time being alert to baseball while waiting for the Cubs to make the Series. (They make just the postseason again and I have to buy scalped tickets and book a hotel room and fly to Chicago for a 20-hour stay again. That was much much more fun than fantasy, but roto is at least cheaper.)

You sure do get to know the league. When I started we had a 14-team, 24-man roster NL-only league. I used to explain to people that being in this league meant having to know the difference between James and Lyle Mouton. Without fantasy, I doubt I'd've known what a Mouton was--

  • oh and Pujols

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

By the way, like Ficus I own Pujols. When he plays the Cubs, I root against him.

Though if the Cubs have a VERY big margin it might be okay for him to hit a solo shot.

  • Walter Boldys

[Read the article: America eats its young]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I remember this argument from the 2000 election. We were firmly told that there would be, basically, no difference at all between a Clinton/Gore administration and a George W. Bush administration, because Republicans and Democrats answered to the same corporate masters and the same political forces.

Just in terms of the issue at hand--national debt--how's that working out for you?

  • well, he's consistent

[Read the article: A meeting with the president]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

This is a president who's always insisted that you never negotiate with your enemies, because evil will only be emboldened, after all.

  • sports hijab

[Read the article: Hijab banned from girls' sports event]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Well of course someone has designed headcoverings that are sensible for playing sports in; it's come up in previous sports-and-hijab threads right here in Broadsheet.

    http://www.thehijabshop.com/capsters/index.php

shows two designs (Outdoor and Tennis--Outdoor looks best for a contact sport, though it's made of warm fabric) that close with velcro, surely not posing more of a choking danger than the collar of the uniform itself. (For total safety I suppose they could fight nude like the ancient Olympians, but nobody would impose that on a modern athlete of either sex or any religion!)
