[Read the article: A bill of rights for the beleaguered GOP?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I just finished reading the "letter to fellow GOP reps" from TPM. Anyone posting here should read it, with a barf bag and then after upchucking, read it again to truly believe it isn't some joke.

No no no no no! Not in a million years.

Any letter that starts by painting an abusive and corrupt Republican House as innocent victims out to be quickly relegated to the nearest outhouse. I hadn't heard such mewing since I saw the evil emperor begging for mercy just before Anakin Skywalker killed his fellow Jedi allowing the emperor to toss him out the window.

The cry of "forty years of Dem oppression" was a nice touch. You remember those decades, right? You know, the ones before you and most of your parents were born. The ones where after seventy years of GOP domination that lead to The Great Depression, brought social security, medicare, the right to organize, the victory over Hitler, Japan, and the Soviet Union, brought minimum wage, environmental protection, civil rights and the concept that maybe a government that serves the common good of the common people actually ensures a great government.

Yes, how dare those Dems oppress the half a percent of the population just to provide the other 99 and half percent a living wage, affordable healthcare, housing and a future for their children with Pell grants. How much longer must oligarchs suffer at being deprived from being bigger oligarchs just because the serfs who serve them to keep from starving think they ought to be paid for their services. Don't you know that type of whining is reserved for selfish uppity black athletes?

I digress, but that letter spelled out perfectly clear what I argued in my first post. Politics is a battle on the playing field of the constitution and the rules its sets. Those rules didn't include granting equal power to those who may not deserve any power. The GOP has committed itself to serving the few the wealthy the greedy. If the Dems are committed to serving the rest of us with the same ferver they will not concede one inch to these duplicitous self serving bastards.

The message of the letter is clear: "Just because we lost the election doesn't mean we should lose our power. We demand the right to be equal to the majority and control or stifle any legislation we dislike." Sounds like the Sunnis. Hell, I'd rather they sniped at congressional aids and laid IEDs along Pennsylvania Avenue than for the Dems to concede to their demands.

In 1994 the GOP went after the Dems and crushed every last shred of their principles out of them. Fox may call Pelosi a radical liberal, but she couldn't carry McGovern's jock. The new Democratic party is not a single remnant of the Dems who "oppressed for 40 years" and gave us all that horrible legislation that pulled so many from poverty, smashed tyrants and put their children through school. This is a new Democratic party, and if it wants to even be a shadow of its old counter part and really cares about the people who put them in office, it will crush the GOP so far underfoot even FOX newscasters will spit and cough when they mutter the words "Tom Delay" or "Newt Gingrich."

The simple answer Pelosi should give is "Our bill was offered in good faith, and no one questions are willingness to be conciliatory and conflict avoiding. This one is obviously made in bad faith and our voters won't let us knuckle under them no matter how much our desire to grovel pulls at us." Then she should make that awful laugh like the one she did when asked if she would appear on Stephen Colbert.

  • Military opinions

[Read the article: Has Bush lost the military on Iraq?]

    Unfortunately to Bush and Co.

There's is not to question why,

    Just to do and die.

The only opinion that will count is the one expressed by our soldier's feet. When they refuse to pick up their weapons and, in the words of Woody Guthrie, "Ain't going to to to war no more" will this administration, this government, this people listen to the opinions of our armed forces.

Already, I've read posts on not just right wing sites, which claim that anyone who volunteers to join the army or marines can't complain of their lot as they know exactly what they are getting themselves into.

    Pathetic.

In the service, I learned what NAVY stood for:

    Never

    Again

    Volunteer

    Yourself

  • Sense and sensibilitylessness

[Read the article: McCain: Contender or pretender?]

The problem is, if we think he is just lying and kissing up to woo the hard right how do we know he isn't giving a nudge and wink to the rest of America? What happened in 2000 when a certain candidate whose name rhymes with Whorge Gush gave a wink and a nod to moderates with his "compassionate conservative?"

Fool me twice? Oh yeah, no more cliches.

In light of the issues facing this country and the serious threat those issues pose to both us and our children and their future, can we really afford to vote for someone who stands side by side with the most detestable views and goals we have fought so long against and accept them at their "wink and nod" that they aren't really with them? That they really would support the views and goals we want even though they, as in a former Vietnam jet pilot who withstood years of torture, are too afraid to stand up for now?

At best he is a fraud. At worst it is not the far right he is conning. The straight talk express stopped talking straight when being a megalomaniac hell bent on being leader of the free world was more important than any principle he told us he believed in.

I'd sooner vote for someone whose name sounded like Osama Hussein Backdoorman then another damn Republican with his lips cemented tight to the sphincter of the looney right while his tongue is is saying I'm only kissing them on their cheeks.
