This just in

In case anyone still reads postings more than a day old, Pelosi closed the Whip voting by saying let the healing begin. In other words, lets move on.

This is hopefully what I expected. She paid her debt to the radical elements while courting the moderates to show some love now that they've won. DeLay wasn't Gingrich's choice and no one remembers any catfight or destruction to Gingrich's reputation by the loss of his choice (we all remember the collapse of his reputation by looking like a totally whining wimp against the so called draft dodger but real man Bill Clinton, but I digress)

Pelosi didn't get where she is by acting like Katherine Harris (Harris on the other hand got exactly where she is by acting like Katherine Harris). She now has a moderate wing taking the lead on passing the laws she wants passed, while holding those who want the troops out NOW and the impeachment proceedings to begin, sitting in her back pocket like a brace of subpoenas, just waiting for the "loyal minority" to give her grief.

I may be blinded by optimism, but so was most of America three years ago. I just hope I am right and she knows what she is doing.

But then, its not like people are fleeing San Fran (except bloated football team owners shocked that the retched refuse won't reduce themselves to penury just to build him a new stadium so he can make a few new billions on the eventual team sale). But then that is the story of America right now.

Go girl.

Wait! There's more!

Arriving in Hanoi, Bush commented on how it reminded him of John McCain's days in captivity, being tortured and all that. Maybe he was wishing the Vietnamese hadn't quit and released him so soon.

The Viet leaders must be taking these comments in stride, though I do hope someone is following the Occupant explaining to the Viets that Bush is clearly insane.

If he was not so self deluded, Bush might notice that the real lesson of Vietnam is that the sooner we stop making a mess of things and just leave, the sooner countries like Vietnam can resolve their internal differences and join the rest of the world, better off without us than with our meddling.

Now, if he would just don that flight suit he wore in his Mission Accomplished speech maybe we could talk Vietnam into locking him up in Hanoi Hilton and waterboard him for the next two years. It would go along way to truly understanding what McCain went through.

And the alternative is?

So he's against abortion and contraceptives. Does that mean the Family Planning Council will be handing out free coathangers?

Dear Editors

You guys (and girls) really have too much time on your hands :)

You make a very good point compared to what Annie has done for four decades, but think about those nights or long lonely days when you've pulled out letters you've never sent. Or think about articles you wish you had not written (usually after you spent the commission) There are about ten letters I've hit delete for every I've submitted to this site. I'm no Liebowitz, but I love to write as much as she loves to shoot. This means capturing and thinking the good the bad and the poorly written. Cut her some slack. Had Da Vinci in his later years made childrens books written with the paint of his own excrement, we and the Italians and French would be vieing to build a museum to house them.

Let us look upon Annie's work with perspective. Still, a very good article and reason why I like Salon. A few hundred years from now when the US, French and Italians are vieing to build a museum for Annie's work, I hope they will include this article.
