If you want anymore proof that the GOP Congress and the GOP Admin are on the rocks like a drunken abused Congressman and his jaded pageboy, consider the following:
When Woodward's damning new book hit the stands, the admin rang up a cave in Pakistan and, just like every other response to bad news, a new video. This time they called for the "laughing terrorists" as another banal Bin Laden speech just wasn't going to do it.
A week later, when the GOP's savior of children from internet predators is laid bare as the man taking pointers from his targets, the Admin won't even through Hastert the simplest bone of a code orange. What gives? Well just the "I know Dennis, great family man. Doing a 'heck of a job.'" kiss of death.
If the GOP retains the house don't expect anything other than dedications to aging vets, national recognition days for apple pie and orphan dogs as the lame duck counts down his days.
If the GOP loses expect a much more enjoyable last two years. One featuring lots of blood. Lots and lots of blood.
Personally, as a liberal I don't believe in gun ownership, but this is one time where I would advise all my tree hugging friends to go buy a gun and use it to get anyone who hates this government out of their house first Tuesday in November and vote Democrat. If you believe in taking up arms to defend your country than surely you will take up a small revolver to take a few hostages down to the local polling place.
I agree with today's Wonkette. If the Dems can't use the endless stream of GOP incompetence, corruption, self dealing, pandering, sucking up to Bush and supporting a disaster of a war, capped off with the cherry Foley wanted to bust open on a sixteen year old then they don't even deserve to be a party.
If this party doesn't retake control and ship of Bush and Co. to the Hague to stand trial for war crimes, they should just shoot themselves and let us find a new party to challenge the GOP. I'd sooner turn this country over to a triumverate of Amedjaninad, Kim Il Sung, and Baby Doc than suffer another two years of the GOP.
Sure the people can be stupid, but it is incumbent upon the opposition to show us when we are being flimflammed. If the Dems can't do that, then they are as effective as Colmes at a Hannity comming out party.
For anyone who still wastes a moment of their or our lives, a respiration of CO2 for oxygen to argue that invading Iraq because this administration honestly feared Saddam's WMD's out to just go off themselves. Or at least do what so many more intelligent people need to stop doing; withdraw into political exile and not vote or write or do anything other than listen to endless Phillip Glass music.
In 2002 everyone knew Saddam might have had bio or chem weapons and might be interested in starting up a nuke program from scratch; since scratch was even more than they had and the UN inspectors proved as much. Yet, this admin and anyone paying attention knew he had no ability to deliver them beyond his borders. Any intelligence also knew he 1) would not give them to religious radicals as they were enemies of his secular state, 2) needed them to keep Iran in its own borders and 3) needed them to keep the Kurds and Shia's in line. This was open and obvious from 1991 to 2002.
North Korea has been waving its nuke program like Johnny Wad Holmes member since 2002. Contrary to Saddam's denials, it has openly claimed to have made not one but several nukes. Contrary to Saddams proven lack of delivery devices, it has tested or threatened to test (ironically) Long Dong missiles capable of reaching the US.
The response from this same administration which scared us into invading Iraq has been the equivelant of crickets chirping.
Now, after North Korea claims to have tested a nuke, and Richter tests confirm some type of explosion, the administration is bending over backward to explain away the event as maybe just a tectonic movement or lots of TNT. I swear, I've read everything Neville Chamberlain said about Hitler after Munich 1938 and it didn't go near this far to excuse a madman like this administration dismisses this one. Clearly, if we follow along with the Bush administration's approach to North Korea then we will really not know if they do have nukes until the proof comes in the form of a mushroom cloud.
Thirty Thousand American troops and countless thousands of South Koreans, Japanese and American civilians stand in the shadow of that cloud.
This is more than any sane person could say about Iraq in 2002.
Iran is keeping a close eye on this little spat. Maybe wondering if we would respond the way the French and British did in WWI or the way they did in 1936 Spain.
An administration that claims this is a fight for the survival of civilization and touts itself as the very archangel Michael in the battle for good against evil sure has a strange way of showing it.
Today. This country is watching its children bleed to death in a quagmire of a country that doesn't want us there and doesn't care about freedom or good versus evil. And while Barney and Laura are having second thoughts, this very president dedicated to fight to the last man or last day of office, is making excuses for what may be a real nuclear threat involving the potential deaths of millions.
If you can't understand the difference in approach, then maybe you need to stop thinking WMD's was the real issue.
