Tnx. john40...
[Read the article: How 1968 changed Hillary]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"Battles of the 60s
...The one thing that everyone in that (my parents) generation has in common is a big, fat sense of entitlement, that everybody else (the old people in the 60s, us younger people now) better shut and get the hell out of the way, because we don't (know) what we're talking about..."

This is PRECISELY why I'm not voting for Clinton. Thanks for articulating that for me so clearly.
This article was very touching...in a Peggy-Sue-Got-Married sort of way, and I'm sure you folks over 50 are just SWOONING about those good ole' days in the 1968s, when marching the streets against (insert controversial topic) meant something...
But those days are long gone. And while this article was interesting for it's quickie look at how Hillary left the dark side of The Force, it still has NO MEANING to the primary race that we are seeing happen before us. And the Hillary of today is certain not the Hillary of 1968 (or even 1998 for that matter, since the Clintons have become multi-millionaires after leaving office...again, goes back to that sense of entitlement).
Although I would agree that the last paragraph marred this otherwise non-partisan piece...I think the painting of that ironic political turnaround after 40 years is true nevertheless...if the author wanted to make this case about Hillary's jading in color from idealistic youth to well-to-do political Baby boomer, he should have made this a 2 part article. Shame he just narrowed it down to 1 badly placed paragraph...but I get his drift.

A surprisingly good book review...
[Read the article: Through a bong, darkly]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Proof again that Salon has some redeeming value once you leave the political theatre to the side for a bit.
I will say that I'm just F'ING TIRED of hearing about how great the 60's were. Okay, I'll grant you that civil rights took a big leap in that decade, thanks in part to hard work done over the previous two decades before then.
And okay, there's the music...
But beyond that, I can't give Boomers any more credit...yall have been getting a free ride since then...but it ends once someone from OUR generation (aka Obama) gets elected to office.
And thank Christ Gen X/Y ers are doing the commercials now, because I was just sick of hearing 50s/60s rock music in raisin ads. Of course, now I get to hear Crazy Train in a car ad...startin' to feel old now, not liking that much.

Sorry maturity...
[Read the article: No, Hillary Clinton shouldn't be winning]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hillary is losing
And as for reflecting the company you keep...what do the likes of Mark Penn reflect on Hillary? Including paying $13 million to Mark Penn for his "services" during her campaign...what kind of reflection is that on how a candidate spends their SUPPORTER'S donations? What about her entire campaign staff, for running a shoddy campaign? Or Bill Clinton, for that matter, since he's been real good sticking his foot in his mouth as a Hillary surrogate.
Your company-you-keep comment is kinda stupid, because Obama is NOT going to appoint Jeremy Wright or Louis Farakann to cabinet positions...but these associates/colleagues/spouse that I have listed above WILL have a critical roll in an HRC White House.
Besides, it's not about the company you keep...it's about good judgement, and Hillary has shown a severe lack of it at many times during this campaign...

The Boss just came out for Obama...

Is this why some animals eat their young?
[Read the article: We want a kid but don't think it's right to have one]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I can see the animal now, looking at their offspring, thinking "Geez, it's going to be pretty hard fighting against other alligators in the swamp to survive...I guess I better just eat them before anybody else gets a chance to..."
Yeah, sounds stupid, doesn't it LW? Well, we aren't that far removed from the animal kingdom as well...no child is going to be able to articulate this existential dilemma until they are MUCH older...and by that point, if life is that goddamn crappy, they can just snuff themselves out. Unless you and your spouse are genetically predisposed to have bi-polar offspring, this isn't really going to be an issue. The fact that you worry about THAT and not about whether you can afford to put the kid on someone's health insurance plan means you need to get yo' shit straight before pumping kids out.
Although I would greatly encourage adoption as an alternative for anyone not willing to bring another living person into this fucked-up world, your existential "footprint" issues go way beyond the practical realm here...I somehow suspect that the adoption process would weed you out as well.
So...stop worrying so damn much...when you cross that threshold, then you can start thinking about breeding...
