Has Salon Jumped the Shark?
[Read the article: The dude vote]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Again, another a-fucking-typical story for Salon, lamenting about Hillary just not being able to get the support she deserves, even if she has more "experience" than Obama, or whatever.
Novel idea for Salon/Hillary Supporters: Maybe people don't want to vote for Hillary because she's the last gasp of the Democratic party of the 20th. Century, representing an old, tired wing of the party that is less relevant to the thirtysomething-or-less audience of today. Maybe people don't want to vote for her because she supported the war (and now doesn't, claiming she was duped...bullshit, I sez). Maybe she just flip-flops too goddamn much for me stomach...Maybe she wants to have her cake and eat it too, politically speaking. Maybe, just maybe, people sick and tired of the idea of 8 more years of Clinton, even if it's not the same as Bill Clinton.
If political "experience" is defined by 4 years of Bush Sr., 8 years of B. Clinton, 8 years of Bush Jr., and THEN ANOTHER 4-8 years of H. Clinton...then fucking count me out...I'd prefer a neophyte to this same-old song and dance we've had for the last 20 goddamn years.
This don't have nuthing to do with her being female...it has everything to do with her being a Clinton, though...

Here's how you turn white evangelicals into Democrats...
[Read the article: How to turn white evangelicals into Democrats]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Find Oliver Wendall Jones from the Bloom County comic strip, have him bring out his race-changing-machine (the one he used to turn Steve Dallas black), and have him point that at random white evangelicals walking down the street...
Yeah, it's stereotypical and crude...but it has about as much of a chance of working as trying to have a rational "dialogue" with white evangelicals, to explain to them the error of their ways.
Nice try, Ms. Sullivan...but all these convert-the-Christian books are just nonsense. These folks don't feel like they have to change (for the most part), so why the hell should I? Just to get them to vote for Obama or some shit?
Please...

So you don't want to be the "Charlie" girl, eh?
[Read the article: I somehow became the "Charlie" girl at the local bar!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Then stop going to the goddamn bar and being an attention whore...if you're going to play the part and enjoy being put on a pedestal, don't be surprised if people try to knock you down when you DON'T play the part, for whatever valid reasons you may have.
Honestly, if you 2+ children and a husband, shouldn't you be spending more time with them and less time...at an f'ing bar, for Christ's sake? Unless I missed something in your letter, you have a good relationship with your family...don't screw that up with your "troubles" at the local watering hole. There's a reason why those folks are going there...and it's typically not good.
Cary's advice is good, but I think the solution here very simple. Stop going to the bar...

Should Hillary Drop Out?
[Read the article: Should Hillary Clinton drop out?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yes...
Next?

Finally, thank Christ...
[Read the article: Anonymous no more]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I never did like the anon. thing. It's like being in the town square in ye old-e times...this is a "public" forum, and if you don't have the courage to post on this forum as you would speak in public, then maybe you should keep your vitrolic comments to yourself.
It's too easy to speak tough yet act cowardly and remain anonymous on the internet. Salon is bigger than that, as a forum for free thought, and this is a major step in the right direction.
And rating users is a great idea as well...kinda like on eBay...
BTW, there's a way to keep anonymous on Salon...if you want to say something that might be incriminating, just create another goof profile...something that NOBODY would ever figure out, like HaywoodJablowme58 or IPFreely882561...

To Raymonda1...
[Read the article: The dude vote]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]5 Obama accomplishments (courtesy of Bob Geiger on the Huffington Report):
1) The Lugar-Obama legislation, which helped decrease the threat of old nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons in the former Soviet Union.
2)Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 which Obama co-authored and that led to USAspending.gov, which keeps Americans better informed on government spending.
3)The Dignified Treatment of Wounded Warriors Act, which passed in July of 2007 and addressed the hideous treatment received by Veterans under the Bush administration, began its legislative life as the Dignity for Wounded Warriors Act, introduced by Obama earlier in the year.
4)He sponsored a bill in the IL Senate that would nearly ban all gifts from lobbyists, and that banned the personal use of campaign money (in a state with a KNOWN history of political corruption, I'd call that a major accomplishment). It passed, BTW.
5)He sponsored an IL Senate bill that would provide job skills training to IL recipients of federal aid below the poverty level. It passed, BTW.
This is not to mention the, oh, 821 other IL Senate bills that he sponsored during his tenure in the state senate....some of which passed, some of which didn't. Sure, he has only a few accomplishments in the U.S. Senate (the 3 biggest ones that passed are listed above)...but then again, he's only been a U.S. Senator for 3 years, 2 of which were under a Republican majority.
So, don't go throwing around this who-has-the-most-experience bullshit just to prove that the Clintons are better due to their numerous years in office...besides, I'd rather have a candidate with good JUDGEMENT than with good experience...and Hillary's judgement on many things (particularly on the war) has been severely lacking...
