Dan Froomkin wondered at the time of nomination if Mukasey would be just another Bush toady. Did anyone, anyone, suspect that Bush / Cheney, especially with Cheney's arm long crime list, would agree to any nominee not completely, and irrevocably compliant with the prevailing crime spree and dominant narrative?

I have had the distinct feeling for some time now, since becoming aware of Yoo's employment at UCB, that the same intense pressure on Hamilton advocated by Glenn for Mukasey's mendacity be applied to the UCB for employing Yoo as a professor. Especially Berkeley! How ironic that one of the historically most progressive universities and towns gives sanctuary to this individual so demonstrably intent on creating a dictatorship and enabling hideous behaviors condemned by the world at large. UCB should be held to account on this score every bit as much as Hamilton, the 9-11 Commission and Mukasey for his manipulative bullshit. And believing anything coming out of Zelikow's mouth is a huge mistake. Watch for massive spin on this one.

So, perhaps we can angle slightly akilter and consider, for sake of comparison and consideration of precedent, the fate of Ward Churchill, another professor with "alternative" public viewpoints. As a reminder, Churchill expressed a viewpoint following 9-11 that "the chickens had come home to roost" in the sense that US foreign policy had actually attracted the attack on 9-11. When one examines both the statements of Bin Laden vis a vis US military presence in Saudi Arabia and the complete history of US military global interventions, one might think that Churchill had a legitimate point. Churchill also stated that the WTC was a legitimate military target as the financial institutions housed there, and, indeed, of the same ilk that have engineered our current collapse, made financial decisions with global impact that not necessarily, if at all, had the well being of the people as a top priority. In fact, the US regularly employs this line of reasoning. Used it in Iraq with "dual use" nonsense to justify "military targets".

And what was Churchill's reward for presenting these views, views shared by some in the US and by many globally? Well, of course, he was fired by the U of Colorado. Now mind you, these were simply free speech matters not legal memorandums altering US policy to enable behavior considered criminal by most everyone in the world (the plagiarism allegations pale in comparison to Mr Yoo's antics). That UCB would not respond in kind, indeed, ever hired Yoo in the first place, is stunning. This is a gentleman that should be unemployed, blacklisted and disbarred (much like Matthew Diaz?). Yet, he not only continues to be employed, enabled and defended by UCB, but enjoys full face time in the MSM! Strange country USA!

Thank you Glenn for shining a most necessary light on the radical extremism and state terrorism of Israel and the Cheney wing of the WH.

I applaud any journalist's integrity and courage to challenge the extreme, and often violent behavior of Israel, both here and in the Middle East. And major kudos for frankly exposing Clinton's and Obama's pandering to the domestic Zionist cabal. Clinton, by dint of her constituency in NY, has little choice but to pander. No surprises there. One needs but return to the Obama speech on race, an otherwise brilliant piece of work, and start the tape at minute 8 and listen closely to Obama clearly lay his pro Israel, anti Islam cards on the table. Ironic and perhaps fitting, that Obama will be soon bludgeoned by the Republican slime machine and its entrenched racism. It may be his due for perpetuating and pandering to the prevailing pro Israel, anti Islam narrative-true or not. This may be Mr A Change Is Coming's clearest indicator that he's really just More Of The Same. Much to our peril, of course.
